UT Dallas Class of 2025-Admissions/Discussions Thread

Do any of you have any experience with the Computing Scholars program at UT Dallas? S21 might be interested, but besides what is written on their website, we really don’t know what kind of required classes kids in the program have to take or how it differs from the regular CS degree in terms of internships or job placements upon graduation.

chances for jsom with a 3.8 weighted/4 and 5.03 weighted/5 (not ranked), applying test optional, good ecs.

S21 got his acceptance email for JSOM this morning!

Those are pretty much my sons stats, except his school does rank (he is 1Q/17%), also applied test optional and he got his acceptance letter/email for JSOM this morning. He applied on 10/10.

Congratulations to him, @Momof3B!

Just got admitted for CS! I applied Oct, 12th.

My son was accepted on 10/26 and applied on 8/11 to Computer Engineering. He’s excited!

New to the forum this is my first post. My DD received her acceptance to UTD for CE on Nov 3. Class of 2025.

We plan to wait for other Universities to respond before we make our decision but is there anything we need to do at this time at UTD?

I read through several posts on other chats where parents are already looking in to reserving housing in dorms. . Can we do that without accepting the offer right now?

D21 is in, I think for biology, not sure what major she put!

We are planning on driving up to the area to at least do a drive around if not a walk around campus in a couple of weeks. Any good places for takeout or must sees?

@GLP2AAMom Congratulations on your DD’s acceptance. We are waiting to hear about financial aid before we decide which school to accept admission, but we did apply for housing at his top 2 choices because he wants to make sure he gets into the Computer Science LLC. It doesn’t require accepting admission but there is a small non-refundable fee.

My son just got his acceptance. He sent his application through Common App on 10/24. He is a NM Semifinalist. : )

@creekster519 So the UTD housing portal is open?

I saw on the UTD website that the McDermott Scholars Program will not admit Freshman scholars for the 2021-22 academic year due to the Covid-19 crisis.

@creekster519 Where did you pay for the UTD housing?
We are not able to see the housing options for my daughter?

@1Lotus @GLP2AAMom https://www.utdallas.edu/housing/ should have an apply for housing link. Sign in and start a new application. We also discovered that once you have signed the contract and filled out the questionnaire, you can search for roommates that are similar to you.

@GLP2AAMom Thank you!

@1Lotus , that is a real shame they aren’t doing McDermott this year. I don’t understand that. The caliber of kids who would be applying for McDermott would have tested in Fall 2019 and already have SAT/ACT scores so blaming it on Covid is not an excuse. The state of Texas is losing out on stellar recruits this year with Texas A&M’s Brockman being canned and now McDermott. The best and the brightest will go where the money is even if it isn’t in the great state of Texas and I don’t blame them.

I wonder if it’s because they can’t offer the travel experiences? Or maybe the fund took a financial hit in the market. Who knows. D keeps getting invites to apply for the Terry program so I guess that’s still accepting students.

@mm5678 , Texas A&M is offering study abroad options for spring semester so I wouldn’t think it is travel related but like you said, who knows. The markets are up right now since the election too. I am curious as to the why. That scholarship has been around for a long time. It is very well known and highly regarded.

Thanks to you @ChillyCow mailed the admissions office finally and got the acceptance last week into CS. Applied on August 29.
