UT Dallas Class of 2025-Admissions/Discussions Thread

No it did not include the AES from the communication page. It included a couple of loans and OOS tuition waivers.

D checked her UTD portal today.

OOS
GPA=4.0 (u/w), school does not weight or give rank
ACT=33
rigor= 8 or 9 AP?, full-time PSEO student at state flagship senior year

AES award (if understanding correctly)= in-state rates + $6000/year

Anyone else with AES announcements and stats? I thought this thread would be filled with chatter today. I donā€™t think D has heard anything about Honors.

My son received $6000/yr AES.

GPA = 4.0 unweighted (Homeschool so no class rank)
ACT = 32
SAT = 1510
AP Computer Science A = 5
4.0 in all dual enrollment classes so far.

We were hoping for more but are happy he received anything at all. There has been some discussion on reddit. Several said they got $3000 or $6000 even with high test scores and GPA. It must have been very competitive this year.

I am still waiting for UTD AES but one thing I noticed, UTD tuition increased to $7557 per semester. It appears the ā€œretail priceā€ is even higher than A&M and UT Austin.

Is your son an NMSF? We have the anticipated waivers plus AES and it looks like the total is around the total NMF award. Itā€™s not easy to tell, though, because they donā€™t spell it out anywhere.

S21 is Commended and not NMSF. He did get the waivers plus AES, but it did not come anywhere close to full ride. My S19 has a little better stats, but got close to full ride when we were in state. S21 got a great offer from UCF with BF and provost, so he will probably go there instead. plus UCF is much closer to where we live now.

The award letter reappeared and FA breakdowns including AES populated on Thursday, I think. It was a bit of a relief. AES wasnā€™t as much as we thought she might get, but Iā€™m not really surprised. Between last year and this one, I think itā€™s safe to say that UTD, for whatever reasons, is now in a position to be much less generous with AES. Itā€™s the main reason the school appeared on our radar to begin with, so a bit of a let down. However, I think it might still be a comparatively good fit school for her. Will do the full tour at schools that came out more affordable and seeā€¦

Actually UTD is the most expensive Public University in Texas according to Dalllas Magazine.

UTD $7557 per semester vs $5500 in A&M or UT Austin.

If only offering $3K or $6K AES tuition discount, definitely for those with 1500+ SAT and top 10% should go to the cheaper A&M or UT Austin.

UTD may be known to people in North Texas, but outside Texas, UT Austin and A&M are better.

My son just checked his AES on portal. Surprised to get $16,000 per year ($8,000 each semester) based on comments about AES being reduced recently.

Stats:
SAT: 1550
Unweighted GPA: 4.0
9 APs including a 5 on CS
Rank: 20/566
Instate auto admit

Congratulation! Prior to 2020, your sonā€™s stats would have gotten the top tier which is full tuition and 3K per semester. My S19 had similar stats and thatā€™s what he got in fall 2019. The top tier now is $16k per year.

Congratulations! Do you see 3K stipend in the AES offer?

We in the same boat but I will rather go for A&M or Austin if I have to pay for more expensive dorm and meal plans in UTD. Without the stipend my parents will still have to fork out over $15K for room and board.

It seems that class rank now carries at least as much weight as test scores. It was bound to happen that they began attracting so many more high stats students that they no longer had to be so generous with slightly lower stats. It just happened so fast-- in a matter of 2 applications cycles.

By the way there are no more separate stipends for AES. Itā€™s just a whole dollar amount applied to tuition. If someone gets the $16K and there is a credit balance, Iā€™m not sure if they get it refunded or it can go towards dorms or meal plans.

Tuition is $7557 per semester, so after a bunch of fees, the $16K is gone. And it is a little cheating on UTD part. $16K in the past was a lot for $11K tuition, now $16K just matches the tuition.

And A&M/UT Austin full price tuition stays around $5500 per semester for the last eight years.

UTD will still be good option for those HS seniors from cities close (within 10 miles?) to Dallas as they can simply stay home. UTD dorm and meal plans can add up to $15K and will be more if you add summer. The $3K per semester stipend used to help out the majority of dorm expense. Without stipend, UTD is not an attractive option even for in-state kids with high stats but outside of Dallas area.

Iā€™m seeing the annual average tuition for last year being:
13,442 UT Dallas
11,361 TAMU
10,824 UT Austin

So $3000 a year AES makes tuition less expensive at UTD. And I looked back on an older Dallas Magazine article about the higher cost at UTD - and part of the difference between the two UT system schools is UTD is the heavy Engineering, Business and Computer classes, that have more fees associated with them than liberal arts classes.

UT Austin has engineering etc - but also a more balanced amount of liberal arts and communication classes.

I would highly encourage anyone looking at schools to use the online tuition tools for the specific universities they are considering. The added per hour fee in some majors is high.

Semester tuition for a UTD behavioral science or Arts and Humanities student for next year is estimated at $6996 while and Engineering and Computer science student is $7971 - nearly $2000 dollars a year difference.

Also the cost of living on campus and in the surrounding areas is also a factor. UTDā€™s freshman dorms are all single rooms (Three bedroom suites). You canā€™t get that at UT or TAMU for similar price. That is also kind of a negative at UTD in my opinion. TAMU has a huge assortment of options - You can go relatively inexpensive with a couple very old community bathroom dorms or Hullabaloo Hall very similar to UTDs dorms that is nearly $500 more semester for a shared room (though the bedrooms are larger than the UTD ones - but UTDā€™s are designed for only one person).

Is the NMS scholarship package separate from the AES offer?

I got UTD Fall 2020-2021 tuition in Galaxy portal, the tuition increased to $7557 per semester.

New freshmen at Fall 2021 the tuition can be higher than $7557.

UT Austin and A&M increased slightly to around $11.5K two semester which means $5500 a semester.

Agreed. If costs is the same or even a little higher at UT vs UTD, UT is definitely the better option. For a major like CS, UT is ranked top 10 in the nation. S19 was accepted to both schools in CS, but UT gave $0 and UTD was basically full ride so it was a no contest.

I believe it may be. Iā€™ve been trying to make heads or tails of the financial aid offer and have looked at what was done last year but it seems very different this year. It looks like the ā€œanticipated waiverā€ may be the out of state tuition waiver. Iā€™m guessing that once an NMSF progresses to NMF and names UTD as his/her first choice, the NM scholarship is awarded and replaces whatever is in the portal now. I may email the financial aid department to verify the details.

That sounds about right.
