UT Film Transfer Chance? (new here)

Hello, I finally decided to join this forum and was wondering if any of you could help me out. I badly want to transfer into the Radio/Television/Film program at UT for Fall 2011 but I know that it is highly selective. Just give it to me honestly. I do not want to get my hopes up.

I was a terrible student in high school and have attended three different colleges. The first was a junior college that I received no credit for because i dropped out. The second was a quarterly school where i did well at first but then my grades suffered significantly before ultimately dropping out of there as well. This story does have a happy ending however and I hope you have continued to read through all of this negative mess. I went back to the community college and have completed 34 hours with a 4.0 GPA. I will complete 42 this spring hopefully with a maintained 4.0. My essays were pretty good, but that is only my opinion. I do not have ANY current extracurricular activities or volunteer work. Will this be looked at poorly by admissions? I have heard that the main thing they look at is GPA, but that is just what I have read a few places. Please let me know honestly what you think my chances are to get into the Film program this fall.

Just to recap:
34 hrs from CC 4.0GPA
Poor High School GPA and previous College
Good Essays
3 References
Resume (the best I could do with no volunteer work)
No current extracurricular activities (I was in a few clubs at my last school- Film/Photography/Newspaper)

First choice major: Film
Second Choice: English

I look forward to hearing from you and appreciate any information you may be able to provide me.

Thanks.

I’m just like you.
I’m now scared to apply to UT. I don’t want to waste $60 on something that I might not get!

If anyone has any information it would be greatly appreciated.

You’re required to send in ALL college level courses. What is your total GPA of all transferable courses from all colleges? UT takes that into account, and even rejected some people for messing up in their first college experience.

I am aware that I must send in all college transcripts, and I did. However, UT’s website says that they only take “transferable semester hours”. Does this mean that they will not take quarterly hours earned into consideration when calculating my GPA? My true semester hours completed is a 4.0, but I hope they only look at semester hours. I am afraid my GPA would be quite low with the quarterly school included.

I understand that UT will see that I did not do so well in my early college career, but they also say on their admissions page that they look for a “positive academic trend” and i believe my record shows just that. Do you think they will see this?

Thanks

“GPA is computed by dividing the total number of grade points by the total number of semester hours pursued. (Credit hours and grade points earned on the quarter system carry 2/3, or .66, the numerical value of those on the semester system.)”
