UT vs. A&M

I've been accepted into A&M and waiting on UT but I have automatic admission. I've hear UT is a party school from my parents but the classes are really hard still. I want a school with lots of spirit and things to do. I think Austin as a city will be more fun than college station. Is there anything in college station that people do for fun..? Is the atmosphere there more friendly..? I heard its more traditional so I think I might like thatz

Just about any large state U could be called a party school by someone. There are going to be sufficient and large parties going on. There will be students who party too much, just enough and not at all. I wouldn’t let the ‘party’ moniker superseded the academic reputation of the school. After all, it will be you as an individual who will study and make the social life that you want. From what I read, these two schools have a different culture but I’m sure you will find many kids that got accepted to both and pick one or the other for their own reasons. I myself would vastly prefer UT and Austin as a city sounds pretty attractive. College Station is relatively more boring. Not that there is always a lot of time to explore, but certainly some time. To find out more, try visiting. Also there are individual college forums here where you can get more specific about particular colleges.

Austin as a city is definitely more attractive than College Station.
Both schools have parties and serious academics. UT’s Plan II is very famous and its other Honors Colleges are well-known. If you or your parents are afraid of big parties, you can request a “substance-free dorm” (it means no loud ragers and no drugs, even on weekends and certainly not during the week.)
