Utah acceptances?

Has anyone heard from Utah? How long after your audition did it take?

I was told on March 1 notifications to the college will be sent on general admissions and likely some time around mid March decisions would be made for the BFA MT admissions. If you hear back earlier, please let me know as my D is also waiting to hear back.

@bfamtdad My son just got an email acceptance today! Very excited!

Congratulations @CATenorMom!!! My son was just accepted too!!

@theatremom Congrats to you and your son, too!

Congrats to both your sons! My D just got her acceptance too. Auditioned as walk-in at NY Unifieds and loved the experience!

If anyone has any questions regarding the program, feel free to message me!

I am fine with a private message, @stageman181 -but I bet the other parents/students may have the same questions, so if you would reply on this thread I’d be grateful: Can you tell me about the dance training-how often students take dance, and if it’s “stepped” by ability. Can BFA MTs minor in dance? Also, how frequent are private voice lessons? Thanks!

@stageman181 I, too, have a question other parents and students might also have. At the parent info meeting you mentioned you don’t do a NYC showcase but have a casting agent come to Utah instead. Who is the casting agent you mentioned?

Utah has leveled dance classes. You can minor in dance. Dance is everyday at 8:30. Students are evaluated and placed in beginner, intermediate and advanced classes. Evaluated also for voice but can switch voice prof after sophomore year. This year Tara Rubin will be auditioning seniors and they are doing Cats as their senior show.

Oops, forgot to answer one question. Voice lessons are one hour once a week. Additional private lessons are typically available as well.

Thank you so much!

@Walker1194 Thank you very much!

My D has also been accepted at U of U. Any idea of the projected size of freshman class or the estimated size of each class? Is there separate BFA Voice, Dance and Acting emphasis or is it one aggregate BFA class and students work on all 3 areas?

Should be roughly 24 students. MTP is one program and not separated into voice, dance and acting.

@CATenorMom Umm, I personally was not involved in any parent info meeting during my time here, and I don’t know who told you that but that is a lie. This year we have a special one day workshop with Tara Rubin but no we don’t have a casting director regularly come, and now it probably wont happen for a while. @owensfolks Hi! MT Majors can minor in dance if they stay an extra semester (Minor in modern dance is the only minor offered). Students take ballet for 90 minutes a day, and juniors and seniors do an extra hour of jazz on tuesdays and thursdays. There are 3 levels of dance and you are placed on the first day of class. Voice lessons are once a week.

@bfamtdad Most classes start off from 25-30 but by junior year they are 15-18ish

@stageman181 I’m not sure what you mean when you say “now it probably won’t happen for a while.” Are you talking about not having a NYC showcase, not having anyone from NYC visit campus? Do you know what connections the U has with NYC agents?

@CATenorMom We have never had an NYC showcase and Utah never will, the program director doesn’t believe in them (and frankly she doesn’t believe in giving kids any opportunities period). This whole tara rubin thing is a Workshop that was paid for by a grant we applied for, so no NYC casting directors/agents do not come to the school regularly. The program has zero connections with NYC agents, you are on your own.

You sound pretty bitter @stageman181. No one hands you anything in this biz. Get cracking and make your own opportunities. The school isn’t the only place to work.
