UTD AES Chances

Hey, everyone!
So currently I am a junior and I was looking into UTD as one of my college choices. While doing research I came across the AES scholarship and was wondering if anyone could help me gauge my chances and tell me what I should try to improve on to make my chances higher. So far this is what I have:
-1500 SAT (new)
- Overall GPA 4.35
- Rank 2/35
- Congressional Gold Medal recipient
- President of Mu Alpha Theta
- Over 300 community service hours
- Might be in UT Southwestern STARS program (should know by the end of this month)
- 16 dual credit and AP classes
- Member of HOSA
- Member of NHS
- Teen trendsetter program

  • CHAMPS program

Also, my ethnicity is Asian (Indian)
I would greatly appreciate any help and suggestions of improvement.

Also, I was wondering how early I should apply in order to heighten my chances for this scholarship. Also, I read that putting your major as a bachelor’s of arts or undecided increases the chances of receiving this scholarship. Wondering if anyone could clarify?

I think you have a really good chance for an AES scholarship. Your scores are good, your rank is in the top 10% and you have good ECs. Make sure you take AP courses next year. They do look at strength of schedule. I think either major would be fine. Do apply early, so you can be accepted by the end of October. That was the first cutoff for AES scholarships this year. I always think applying early shows interest in the school which they want to see. Good luck!

Thank you so much!

Apply early. Retake SAT since the average for Honors is 1540 (new SAT). They only care about SAT, then to a lesser extend grades/ranking. Everything else is almost useless. Despite what the official party line is, they don’t care about ECs, APs, letters, essays, or anything else. Only a few people work in the AES office (http://oue.utdallas.edu/oue-contact/) and ain’t nobody got time to look at all that stuff.
