UTD?

Hello, I am currently trying to transfer into University of Texas Dallas at spring of 2018, and I currently have a 2.7 GPA but will by at 3.0 after the end of this semester. I would like to go into UTD with a major of Computer Engineering, do I have a chance to get into to the school?
Thank you for your time.

Probably! I am no admissions expert, but I almost accepted a full ride scholarship from them so I have a little bit of insight. UTD is community based, so they will be supportive of in-state applicants. They are also willing to account for other parts of your application such as ACT and SAT scores. Note: they want you (and your tuition money) at their school, so extra demonstrations of your academic proficiency DO NOT hinder your application for the most part. If you are still concerned, look at UTD’s stats!! Their acceptance rate is 85.1% according to google - that is insanely high.
I hope this info helped & good luck next spring

The requirements for transfer are a minimum GPA of 2.7, 42 or more transferable credit hours and fewer than 90, and be in good standing at the institution you are at now. If you have all of that, your transfer should be automatic.

Is there not requirement to get into the engineering school? I can’t find any sources on it.

I do not believe so. You just need to be accepted to UTD and then you can declare your major.

@casualengr

The University of Dallas is not the same thing as the University of Texas - Dallas.

Relatedly, the acceptance rate for the University of Texas - Dallas is not 85.1%.

UTD acceptance rate is 61%. It is ranked #457 nationally according to Forbes. It is not as selective or prestigious as people make it out to be - so don’t be afraid to apply.

I believe you’re getting school-pride and delusions-of-grandeur mixed up. Although a few silly articles or people here and there might put UTD in the same sentence as MIT or such, that view hardly represents the majority who just go to UTD and get what they need out of it - a decent education at a decent price (relatively) and good prospects for getting jobs (at least in the engineering and business schools).

And if you want to talk about rankings, the recent rakings by USN&WR and The Times Higher Education reflect how most students feel about the school. The Times rank it as the top school among those less than 50 years old (http://www.utdallas.edu/news/2017/4/6-32506_UT-Dallas-Ranks-1st-in-US-Among-Universities-Under_story-wide.html?WT.mc_id=NewsHomepageFeature). USN&WR has the UTD MBA as the best value when compared starting salary to debt levels (http://www.utdallas.edu/news/2017/4/27-32533_UT-Dallas-Tops-US-News-MBA-List-for-High-Salaries-_story-wide.html?WT.mc_id=NewsHomePage). So yes, we all know UTD is new. It ain’t as old and prestigious as Oxford, but its value is just right for many.

And the fact that UT Austin is ranked 93 in the US by Forbes leaves me laughing at whatever criteria Forbes used.

And I understand that you’re bitter that your kid didn’t get AES distinction. And I’m sorry that he didn’t get distinction. But I’m sure he’ll be fine wherever he ends up. Best of luck to him.

@getoveritnow Forbes puts all schools into one bucket . National, regional, state, private, LAC…whatever. (Unlike US News & WR which slices and dices so that every college can look better. If you are interested you should review their methodology before declaring it laughable.

Also, you are dead wrong about bitterness. UTD was always a long shot for many different reasons so in the end the level of award did not matter, but thanks for good wishes. My son decided to go to a much higher ranked/more selective institution. Of course, it will cost me quite a bit more than UTD AES achievement but sometimes you get what you pay for in life. That being said UTD offers good value and is moving in a positive direction.

If you agree with Forbes that UT Austin is ranked as the 93rd best in the US, then I will be glad to disagree with you any given day of the week.

And yes, once again, congrats to your son for going to “a much higher ranked/more selective institution” as I know how lowly you think of UTD. You know, the thing ranked # 457 in your mind.

Hey getoveritnow - you are obonoxious, thin skinned, and read things that aren’t written. Have a good life being an a$$ on the internet.

Best of luck to the OP. Sorry the thread went off the rails.
