I was wondering if anyone has any input for my college choice. At this point it is between NEU, SLU, and UTK. I am planning on being a biomedical/bio-engineering major with premed. NEU offers co-op opportunities and after undergraduate job placement that the other colleges do not. At SLU I would be an honors student and medical scholar. UTK is giving me a full ride, and at the institution I would be an honors student and engineering honors student. Both NEU and SLU would be the same cost for me (about 10k a year in loans). Is it worth taking out loans each year to go to a non state school? Also, should I pick NEU if I know that I can find a job through their co-ops even though I don’t like the city of Boston that much (I do not like the cold). Please help! I want to hear other opinions!
UTK’s engineering programs are good, and as an honors student you will have an enriched experience. If you are getting a full ride from UTK, go with it; there is no reason for you to go into debt to go to SLU or NEU (especially if you don’t like Boston or cold weather).
You can co-op at UTK; unlike NEU, where it’s mandatory, at UTK you can choose to co-op or not (when I was an undergraduate at UTK, most of my friends in engineering did co-ops). I would discuss that possibility with someone at the College of Engineering.
Students pick NEU for the COops (which the school helps you find and which are paid). They typically indeed lead to a job.
However, if you don’t like snow and aren’t interested in COops there’s no reason to attend NEU and UTK Honors is better.
Do you mind detailing how you got a full ride to UT, if it isn’t too personal? I hadn’t heard of such a thing occurring before
FYI, SLU is not in a safe part of St. Louis. Think long and hard about this.
