Utterly HUMILIATED

I sent an email to Harvard, Columbia and Yale about my financial aid and since I had similar questions, I copy-pasted from my Columbia email into my Yale/Harvard emails. My sister was calling me and I was in a rush, so I just hit send without reading it over.

… A second after, I realized I referred to Columbia in my emails to Harvard and Yale. It was only a 10-word email, and I followed it up with a quick apology but I feel MORTIFIED. Are admissions officers goingto take this as seriously as I am, or is college admissions stress just getting to me.?

I’m sure they’ve seen worse. At least at Harvard, admissions and financial aid are two separate offices. If you sent the Harvard e-mail to the Griffin Financial Aid Office, I don’t think the admissions folks will even be aware of it.

I definitely sent it to the AOs, not the Financial Aid Office since it was about CSS versus the International Certification of Finances. :confused:

So basically, I should start digging my grave…

Calm down. There is LITERALLY nothing you can do. Go do something productive.

Wait . . . hold up! Harvard Admissions thinks EVERY student just applies to their school and NOWHERE else? Come on, get real! Harvard understands that students apply to multiple colleges. So, you made a mistake. I’m sure plenty of kids do the same thing. If Harvard is really interested in you, they should turn it around and say “WooTheDay, here’s why you should choose us over Yale and Columbia!” You need to get over it!

Thank you all. I have been mentally kicking myself for the past hour. Ugh. Going to go take a shower and rethink my priorities.

I’m sure the admissions people are totally stressed now too. This is their Xmas session.

@WooTheDay - I’ll second @gibby - I don’t think it will make a difference at all, especially as you followed up with a quick apology. It could even help because you did something that got you noticed! Not that I would recommend anyone do this intentionally…

If you haven’t seen it yet, it’s time to read this thread: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/470497-clam-fart-oh-my-god-what-did-i-do-p1.html - and make sure you read post #158.

@BldrDad‌ I haven’t laughed this hard in a very long time. (Thank you, I feel a lot better now.)

@WooTheDay - I’m confused - you just posted in another thread that you were accepted EA. Why would you be worried about consequences when you have already been accepted? You’re not going to be rescinded for this.

@BldrDad In the moment I thought it might have some impact on the amount of financial aid awarded (which might have been silly, I don’t know how financial aid offices operate) but I was most worried about the impact it might have on my application to Yale. :S As you might have seen in my other thread, I’m still not sure Harvard is for me (but that doesn’t mean I want to close any doors for myself).

@WooTheDay,

Financial aid is pretty much formula-driven. They punch in the numbers from your FAFSA, tax returns, CSS Profile, etc., and they come out with a number.
