A friend of mine has a friend that received the UVA Achievement Award this year which includes full tuition for 4 years (Room and Board is not included in this). Im applying to UVA this coming year and have read that UVA does not have any academic scholarships so does anyone know what the Achievement award is? Do you apply for it? I do not know this person well enough to ask the details so any help would be appreciated.

It's an alumni/outside group award. The outside groups give out scholarships from the Jefferson sch. to the UVA AA, and more. They select people based on info passed along by uva/high schools, and are independent from UVA's admissions. Google UVA Financial Aid and you can find out everything.

Thanks for the info. So if I don't get one the first year would my name/grades, etc be considered in future years, or is it just for first year students. Do you know the GPA one must keep to be renewed year after year? I didn't see that on the site.
Thanks!

UVA Rock, might I trouble you to tell us about your friends credentials? Sounds like a person with a great resume.

You cannot be considered in future years for jeff's. its just incoming. but there are other scholarships around if you hunt them down.

To be honest that's what is so surprising his credentials are good but I know some that are just as good or better and they didn't get this award, that's why I wondered if it was a certain application or something. He finished 8th in his h/s class, SAT's 1280 (not counting essay), did not have much extra curricular. Two other friends that will be 2nd years students this year were 1st and 2nd in their h/s class and one of them went to govenors school. That one had 1360 on her SAT's (not counting essay) and lots of extra curricular. So it just seems weird! I guess it's luck of the draw.
