Basically I want to go to UNC and live in NC. I was just wondering if it is possible to be accepted to UVA and not UNC, because I would like to go to UVA if I didn't get into UNC but I don't know if it is worth it to apply. Does UVA have an instate quota to meet like UNC?
4.7 GPA
1840 SAT
Good EC, leadership and volunteering

That SAT is going to get you rejected. You need a 2200+ for out of state flagships. Sorry bud.

UNC: Reach
UVA: Reach (but much less of a reach than UNC; aim for 31+ on the ACT)

Both are reaches! Try taking the ACT and see how you do. Try to aim for at least a 30!

Why is UVA less of a reach when I live in NC…

Your SAT, while a little on the low side for UNC, does lie within the school’s middle 50% and your GPA is fine. So I can see you getting into UNC. But if you try the ACT, a score in the 30s would certainly optimize your chances. I think you definitely have a better chance at UNC than UVA (unless Catria knows something that I don’t). Good luck!

thanks Blue! I am taking the ACT next week actually! Do you know how accurate PLAN scores are at estimating my ACT score?

I don’t know too much about PLAN, but I have heard that it’s pretty accurate. In the cases when it is inaccurate, the students seem to actually do BETTER on the real ACT as opposed to worse.

UNC: High match

Make no mistake, UVA is a reach, and you should still aim for 31+ on the ACT for best chance.

bump
got ACT scores back…31
