Strengths: very demanding course load (lots of college junior/senior-level math/physics/chemistry), EC (choir/research /tutoring)
Weaknesses: CR score, essays (Procrastinated till deadline. Applied for math simply because the engineering essay was too hard, and I didn’t have time. Didn’t read before submitting), HS transcript in China (terrible, didn’t really study in those days), received two B’s at current school (gov&religions, college courses, hopefully not too bad)

General Comments: I was totally disappointed by my CR scores. The moment before I clicked on view decision, I had a strong feeling that I would definitely be rejected. I was crying when I saw the “congratulations” on the acceptance letter. Good luck for everybody who were deferred or applied for RD.

Reflection: taking the SAT and ACT one time and being satisfied with the results-this might have worked against him for scholarship consideration at other schools.

Strengths: took the most challenging curriculum available at his school, Valedictorian, decent test scores. Sent 1st quarter grades showing all A’s.

Weaknesses: small, private Christian school- only offers the basic AP courses- might not be viewed as highly as some other schools (?) Did not allow anyone to proof read his essays- never a good idea!

Why you think you were accepted: all A student who was very involved in EC activities. Being a legacy probably helped with the Early Action decision.

Im not trying to be rude, but I am asking this question since I will apply next year. Why are applicants with stellar stats denied/referred, while those with weaker stats are being accepted?

^ because UVA has holistic admissions that actually consider factors other than SAT score and cumulative GPA.

@BockyRalboa123 UVA tends to admit many more instate students over OOS. The competition for OOS is much harder for admissions than in state so many good applicants were denied acceptance.
