UVA dorm question, urgent!

Hi, I’m a transfer student selecting on campus dorm. This single bedroom costs 6k for both single and double. I realize the difference is the number of beds but if we do double, does it mean we pay half the amount?

I’m confused because half of 6k, 3k for 9 months sounds ridiculously cheap to me. Any feedback would be much appreciated thanks.

For those who go to UVA and live in Johnson, Weedon or Malone, are they far apart from each other? They’re all different buildings right? Is it loud at night? or daytime? I’m wondering because it’s hallway style which I don’t like but the other building that is as cheap is too far from campus. Thanks again.

There is also a UVA forum you can ask in.

According to this chart, it looks like the rate is about 6k for both a single or a double, not half of it for a double. For example, a double in Johnson, Malone, and Weeden is $5880 while a single is $6160.

thx ill post it there. but i meant since I’d be splitting with my roommate. doesnt that nean i pay half

No, it doesn’t. The prices for the double are the prices you pay, not the total price for the room.

omg what the heck. why would anybody do that just to save 300 dollars!!! thanks!!!

At most schools singles are severely limited and often reserved for students that need a single for medical reasons. Don’t be surprised then you request a single and end up in a double.

Singles are usually very small, which may bother some people. And many students fear a single is too socially isolating and prefer the potential for having an automatic friend. In fact, I’ve seen several posts on CC where freshmen were placed in forced triples (3 placed in a room designed for 2 due to overcrowding) and declined the opportunity to move to a double partway through the year because they liked having two roommates. To each his own!

okay, thanks guys. I decided to get a singles off-grounds apt though. It’s really cheap and I’m annoyingly neat so it’s probably for the best.
