Hi guys!
Is it possible to double major economics and commerce? If so then is it possible to finish in 4 years? Please share experiences on double majoring at UVA.Thanks!

Just replied to you in the other thread, but to repeat, S1 is looking to double major in Economics and Commerce. He had all but two courses for his area requirements to be complete so he has had time in his schedule. I think it depends on what other courses you have to take to fulfill your A&S requirements. Look at the prerequisites for both the comm school and for the econ major. Some of the courses overlap for these two tracks so this helps. Just plan it out and see if it will work for your individual situation and the courses you need to take.

In general, I don’t advise that people should double major at all unless there is a very large amount of overlap between the two fields. Instead, consider just minoring in economics. Once you fulfill the minor requirements you still have the flexibility to take more economics courses that interest you without the pressure of taking the large amount every semester required for a major. In addition, you can take the time you save by not majoring and spend it on your own personal projects which will probably end up being more impressive to an employer than an extra BA.

Most people I know who get into the comm school do some kind of concentration or double concentration there instead of a double major or minor in econ…

When I went to UVa, I purposefully tried to take at least one course in each dept, to gain different perspectives. (The only one that was a waste was intro to sociology).

That type of approach is very hard to do if you double major - you are locking yourself in, unless you have lots of AP credits.
