Yes, schools typically assess a student within the context of their high school and what opportunities were available.
It is extraordinary that she has been able to take all those AP classes, but you must take into account that many schools do not offer that many APs, or have no APs at all. Some students excel more within a club/extracurricular and that is fine too. There is no reason to question another student’s admission based on your daughter and her achievements. Also, applying ED shows a level of commitment to a school that EA/RD doesn’t, which is why the acceptance rate is higher for that category. As a student that has taken 16 APs, I wouldn’t be upset if a student that took less APs got accepted and I didn’t. I trust that admissions officers and the Dean know who will be the right fit for UVA.
You should probably withdraw this as it might get you or your daughter in trouble if read by the school?
is it possible for early action decisions to come out this week? or are we thinking more towards next week?
I was guessing 12th or 19th.
putting my bets on either this Friday 1/5 or the following Friday 1/12
yeah I think we can expect them by the 12th at the latest but hoping for friday
I think 2/19 would technically be beyond the “by mid-February” promise, so that’s why I’m going with 2/7 or 2/12.
do you think the admissions office would drop any hints if we called?
I doubt it. I’m just going off of the history of early action releases the past few cycles. It seemed like they were Fridays late afternoon.
But as someone said earlier (I can’t remember where)…Wisconsin released on a Sunday night this year, so all bets are off!
I think a call could help. Previous years don’t say much because of how unusual our admissions season was.
I would just follow Dean J on instagram. She’s pretty transparent and I would expect she’s going to give everyone some notice. It sounds like they’re working day to day to see when they can finish.
Agreed. She said she would update her blog with an exact date as soon as they have one. For now, it is mid-February.
Sounds like she would post something tomorrow if it were coming out this Friday.
No. Please understand…we are so incredibly busy.
For those who think the number of APs should/does drive a decision, please read this: Notes from Peabody: The UVA Application Process: Course Rigor is Not a Number in the #UVA Admission Process
Thanks @Dean_J!
Back to speculation on the release of the decisions…LOL…
I’ve noticed that she released a blog post for early action AND early decision on a Wednesday for a Friday release.
But…for regular decision, her blog post was the day of the release (Friday), not 2 days before.
If we’re looking for a Friday release this early action cycle, she would probably post a blog tomorrow (Wednesday). If no blog post, then maybe we’re looking at next week for decisions.
Hoping soon !
Hi Dean J!
Due to scheduling conflicts, I was unable to take a fourth year of Spanish this year, so, instead, I took a world language course at my local community college. I had requested that they send UVA my transcript in November, however, I just got a notification and they were unable to send it as they go through a third-party service that only sends to UVA by hard-copy mail. I was wondering if I am allowed to upload my unofficial college transcript with this additional information to my portal or if I should just upload a sheet with additional information explaining this?
Thank you so much!
Why would it that post get anyone in trouble?
