My son isn’t applying to UVA but heard about your engagement on CC from other groups on CC. Your transparency and connection here is truly best in class. Thank you for the time!!
Are there statistics on how many students who were deferred from ED last year eventually got in during RD?
I don’t know the answer to your question, but last year was different due to Covid. I know of people who got off the waitlist quite late in the summer because admitted students decided to take a gap year. I haven’t seen the waitlist numbers for last year but I would not be surprised if UVA took more than usual off the waitlist.
@VirginiaBelle I saw that too-- a lot of kids got in off the waitlist late in the spring, and I saw it at other schools as well. In addition to gap year kids, there were international students who weren’t able to accept or enroll due to Covid issues.
I’m specifically asking how many of the ED candidates that were deferred got in during the regular decisions last year. We already know that 781 will be deferred tomorrow so wondering how many of the 570 that were deferred during ED last year eventually got in?
I’m wondering the same! 26% of the ED IS applications were deferred - how many of those will likely be admitted RD?
They accepted 200 more people ED this year than last. Many schools are rumored to have larger first year classes due to Covid budget losses but this of course is limited by housing restrictions.
Has anyone who applied early gotten a legacy letter from UVA? When my oldest applied 2 years ago we got a letter acknowledging receipt of his application.
Virginia Tech certainly hasn’t let housing limitations prevent them from enrolling way too many students. Campus (and Blacksburg) has been busting at the seams for the last few years. (I realize we are talking about UVA, just giving an example of how sometimes universities do whatever they want regardless of capacity!)
Stats are on last years UVA Dean J blog.
@Dean_J, do you know what percentage of applicants this year went test optional? As someone who did submit scores (EA), I am also curious as to how you do not give an advantage to those who submit tests, and how you do not disadvantage those who don’t.
I am a parent of a TO EA applicant. My daughter was registered to take the ACT’s in February and every test that she was re-registered for was cancelled. With Covid making it impossible for my daughter to have taken the ACT’s prior to the EA deadline I appreciate that applicants are NOT given an advantage simply because they were able to take the exam. Not to mention the financial hardship that was placed on our family in the thousands of dollars that we spent over the last 15 months with a tutor.
I am an international student and I submitted my TOEFL scores, but I did not complete an InitialView interview. Is there a preference for the english assessment?
Continuing the discussion from UVA EA 2025 Thread:
Does anyone know when exactly decisions will come out? In some previous years, they have been released later than Jan. 15. I also have heard, however, that schools have been releasing earlier since Covid.
I believe UVA says mid Feb for EA results this year. According to their admissions website.
TO means TO - after spending thousands on tutoring, DD had 3 ACT exams cancelled!!! Completely out of our control!
Does anyone have mid-year grades with an x on the portal that says awaiting?
no, but ours was sent 12/2
Yes - we suddenly have a red x on the portal for mid-year grades. Our first semester grades had been sent (and acknowledged received) and now it seems they need mid-year ones once available. Our GO says they will be sent in 3 weeks (once grades close). We know it’s a long shot anyway as we’re OOS and only in the mid-range for accepted students but worth a shot!
Yes - we do. That was a sign at another school that kids were accepted.
