Hi!! I’m from Luxembourg
Awesome!! I’m from London
Nice!! Maybe we’ll meet next year then (if we both decide to go anyway)
Congrats to everyone. My son was accepted OOS yesterday. In researching schools and the very few we have visited with covid, somehow Virginia is one school that we don’t know too much about. We were drawn to it due to their business program but don’t know too much more. It’s a very different type of school then others he’s gotten into like Michigan. Is there a parent Facebook page or other place to chat with parents on their experience? We are debating on a quick trip but still waiting on a few others.
First of all, congrats to your son! There is in fact a UVA parents Facebook page just for admitted students for the Class of 2025. Just went there myself yesterday. Once you ask to join, the admin will need to let you in. Inside, there are posts from folks who are new to UVa (like yourself), but there also seem to be ones from parents who have older kids who are at UVa or who have recently graduated. And, some helpful students who have offered to give advice and even unofficial tours if you visit!
My own S21 was admitted EA yesterday (in-state) and we know about the school as alums (we, his parents, actually met there way back when). But there’s nothing like getting the perspective of current parents and students of course, and I think you’ll find others with similar questions. Good luck with it all!
One thing you should know is that students apply for the business major after their sophomore year (actually the app is due in January of their sophomore year). It is extremely competitive. I’ve heard that they look for about a 3.8 gpa (UVA gpa) to admit students into McIntire.
Thanks!!! I’ll check it out now. Congrats on the acceptance as well!! Yes we do know about applying your sophomore year which right now is the one big negative…but I’m not sure what other business majors choices he has if he doesn’t get in.
Maybe econ or comm? I’m not sure what the typical routes are. Good luck with your decision!
Yes. Very competitive and accept only half of students who apply. It is super high grades, involvement but also their mission statement says they are seeking diversity so it is even more than that. My son was deferred yesterday but we have made it very clear if he does get in and decide to go he has to be comfortable with the distinct possibility he won’t be able to major in business (many do Econ instead). I know of kids with a 3.8 that have not gotten in. Very different from Michigan/Ross where you can be direct admitted as a freshman.

Most Ross students get in via direct admit frosh year, there are far fewer slots for soph transfers.
Yes. We are very familiar with Ross. We are waiting on a few more schools but want to learn all we can about UVA to make to best choice.
My daughter is a second yr student at UVA who applied to McIntire (undergraduate Commerce School) a few weeks ago. It is competitive but last year 63% accepted and the average GPA was a 3.71.
Must take certain prerequisites many of which overlap with an Economics major.
Mine choose UVA over UNC and direct admits to Carroll (BC) and Kelley (IU). She loves UVA and feels McIntire or not she has great options with a UVA degree.
