UVA EA 2025 Thread

Sounds like how Cornell is, which is actually good. We weren’t thinking of going until sometime late March, but my son really could care less about the inside of buildings or library etc, since you can see that online and for whatever reason my kids can just take that or leave it. I think really wants to just see what the campus as a whole looks like, how it feels, spread out, compact, where buildings are relative to one another, that kind of thing. Strange I know!

Your comments are very helpful though. I have a friend from HS who’s daughter attends, so she would talk to us, but really trying to find someone to talk to about Engineering-CS.

Same issue with UNC where he’s waitlisted and we never had our visit. I was there with my daughters ,so that will be an easy visit to just drive around the campus. I am pretty sure he will not love it as it is more spread out than he would like but since it’s close enough to Charlotesville, might as well kill two birds with one stone, and since I won’t have to quarantine to return to work since I have been vaccinated, it gives me a little more freedom to go then as opposed to April when he’ll have to go with my husband which is fine too if he gets into the others he’s waiting on. What a crap year!

does anyone think that RD will come before April 1?

I can’t help with the visit part of this, but we have student-only chat sessions a couple times per week. The student can sign up on the Visit page of the website under “virtual visit.” There’s one today at 5 PM.

My son was deferred but he didn’t resubmit for RD. I assumed his application was automatically put in the pile for review. Does anyone know if we need to resubmit to be considered for RD?

Thank you so much. I will encourage him to check this out. He did do the virtual info session in the fall, but now that he’s officially admitted this may help answer more specifics.

Thanks for all your great info! It’s so appreciated!!

Not sure about UVA but you don’t have to actually resubmit your application. Most schools ask you whether you want to be considered for regular decision when you are deferred. If he did that he is in the RD pool.

Thank you! That is what I thought

We actually just returned from UVA tonight(from Chicago suburbs). We only were able to go inside the bookstore, but we got a great feel for the Grounds and the immediate neighborhood.
Walked all over and although it did seem “calm” there were people out and about. Ambassadors were all over making sure masks were worn and 6 feet apart (even from your own kid or spouse, my kid was fine with that :joy:).
So glad we made the trip!

I was deferred EA and just looked at my portal and my scores are not listed. I think they were listed there before…
Can anyone who was deferred and is applying with test scores let me know if their scores are listed in the portal now.
Thanks

My daughter’s scores are also not there. She said they were there before.
She also applied EA and was deferred.

I know buildings aren’t open, but does anyone know if the bookstore is open?

I called and they said they are open. No swipe cards required and no restrictions as to who can enter/visit.

Mine are also gone and I noticed that the option to view my deferral letter is gone as well.
I’m not expecting decisions for another month but I wonder if this means anything?

We went to the bookstore last week and it was open. Nice huge selection of pretty much everything. Even snagged a VIRGINIA crewneck

Same here. I think it is just standard. Historically RD for UVA has come out the 3rd week in March. Not too much longer.

FA question. Anyone else get a UVA EFC that was double your FAFSA expected family contribution? I called the FA office and they’ve started a review to see how that happened but I’m curious if this is typical in other’s experience or if there may actually have been a mistake made in their calculation.

I got a EFC that was not double but quite a bit higher than my FAFSA EFC. Have you submitted an intent to appeal form? We just did that and we were not sure if simply filling out the docusign form found on their website would automatically submit or if it had to be submitted separately. I’m hoping their responsive to these appeals.

I called and left a message with FA office (twice) and I’m waiting on them to assign an advisor to respond. It’s been a week and no response yet. I have not filled out the form and wasn’t directed to do that when I called. Please, let me know if you get a response and I’ll do the same.
