This wait isn’t “crazy.” The website has always said decisions would post at the end of January. Prepare for a release on the 31st and consider it a nice surprise if decisions come out early.
Please remember that this is about giving your file a fair review. Hang in there.
@vamom4 Thank you! This is exactly what I was looking for.
To answer your question, I’m almost positive that the “mid-year grades report” section has always been on the portal for everyone. I highly doubt it’s anything hinting at our decisions. Let’s hope for the best!
Another question, I self-reported my SAT II scores a couple months ago, but I only see my SAT I score on my portal? Do subject tests scores not appear on the “Official Testing” section? I’m confused.
@bellab5 Going off of Dean J’s recent comment, I doubt they’ll come out tomorrow. She suggested decisions will be released on Jan. 31, maybe a little earlier.
@“Dean J” Thank you for trying to address the myriad of questions but agree better to focus all attention on the applications to give prospective students the most review time possible! You and UVA have been very clear about the release dates. We will look forward to the results when they come. Good luck
I’m still blown away by the number of UVA EA applications—24,950. When my older son applied, it was around 16,000, which I thought was alot. Looking at EA applicant numbers from other schools, the closest I could find to UVA’s numbers was Georgia Tech with 20,289. Rice had approximately 2,600. MIT 9,600. Georgetown was 7,802. Yale was 6,016. So while the wait might seem long, I think these numbers help put it into perspective for all of us that are waiting. Here’s the link to the site where I found my data if anyone else is interested: https://www.college-kickstart.com/blog/item/class-of-2023-early-decision-and-early-action-results
Looks to me like decisions will be tomorrow between 5-6pm. I would have thought today as from Dean J’s message last year he implied they like Thursdays.
But last year the day prior to release Dean J’s put out the same message about walking away from discussion for a while. Also the facebook group was created right before as well (which they just did).
So tomorrow looks like the day barring any issues on their end.
Does UVA only post decisions through their online portal or do they still send out decisions in the mail too? Couldn’t find that info on their website.
@dophie - We were OOS, didn’t qualify for much. It was 26,000 in all (13 k in grants, 4k work/study, the rest in subsidized and unsubsidized loans. So, really, $13,000. And a grant of some kind (can’t recall the name)for 6,000 (They said $24,000 over four years), that was offered later.
In the past, Dean J(who is a she) will post the day of on Notes from Peabody, you will also receive a letter a few days later congratulating you. Dean J has also been nice enough to post on Notes from Peabody that today is not the day because sometimes the frenzy of thinking it is the day gets out of hand so at least she saves you from dreading the results all day only to not get your results. If tomorrow is not the day then I think it could be any day next week. Last year it came out on 25 Jan which was also Dean Robert’s birthday(Dean of admissions) so maybe the tradition of giving him new Hoos for his birthday will be continued, even though he is the one who approves the release so I guess he actually gives himself the present. Hang in there.
With the way admissions have been talking with so many increases in EA applications isn’t probably not wise to assume that decisions will come out before next week, so I wouldn’t plan on it
If they do come out earlier it’s a pleasant surprise
It’s fascinating to me how schools have advertised decisions this year. Very nice of Dean J to post something on Notes. Orderly and personal. Other schools we are involved with directly/indirectly have posted announcements without warning on one of the major social media platforms: Instagram, Twitter or Facebook. By without warning I refer to the use of the site. (I understand the announcement date is always fluid given Admissions’ workload). Applicants (parents!) had no idea they should stalk any of these sites and learned of the announcement through a friend, counselor, College Confidential stalking parent…I don’t understand why these “Expect your decision on” announcements aren’t sent directly to applicants through the portal, too? There must be a good reason.
