UVA Fall 2016 Transfer Thread

@TVisLife What the interviews did was narrow it down. I would say that if you did not get an interview for McIntire it is safe to say you were cut out. Congrats on getting one, I did as well.

I would ESTIMATE that they have narrowed down the pool to 25-50 (50 is a stretch) applicants for each spot (4 years and CC)

So now each of the batches is going to compete for the remaining 12 spots (12 for 4 year transfer, 10-12 for Community College transfers)

@Blessed21 speaking of the interview, what did you talk about during yours? I felt that I had a pretty relaxed conversation with my interviewer, I did some research on the various nuances of the McIntire program, but ultimately felt that it was a little rushed from the get-go. We did go over the program (broad strokes), mentioned a couple of classes, and they touched on the rigor of the program a lot, but there was a relatively strict adherence to the 20 minutes they were allotted for each interview-- I definitely had a few questions I would have liked to speak about in more depth.

@Blessed21 Id say interviews would be more geared toward people who they are considering, if your academics, extra currics, etc impress them enough, why bother making the effort to interview them. And we cant be sure of how many spots there are, though the trend is downward, it could just be due to less competitive applicants.

@Calibr8 That’s an interesting point, and (perhaps naively) I didn’t think about it that way. However just to play devil’s advocate (and to undoubtedly frighten some readers here), the interviews might be just what Blessed21 suggested-- a way to narrow down the pool of applicants who made it past their initial judgement criteria (aka the academics, ECs).

BUT! As with 98% of the topics we discuss here, all of this talk is pure speculation  I wonder if Dean J would be able to shed some light on the interview process.

@gabriel609 It just makes sense to me, if I remember right you’re OOS and they judge you guys rougher than Virginia CC or In-States, so it would make sense to Interview to make sure they’re taking the best of the best. But for In-State i feel like i would be if your bordering acceptance because they’re familiar with other institutions reputations, etc.

@Calibr8 Like I said, all very good points! I’m definitely including my own biases in my analysis-- clearly I’d like to think I made it into a “select” group of applicants. I figure it would be best for my mental health to not check this site again until decisions are posted, otherwise I’ll keep speculating over the most insignificant of minutiae.

@gabriel609 I think we all want to, and i’m completely on board with you. This thread causes only more anticipation for me

@gabriel609 I agree that the interview felt rushed.

(Putting my two cents in) I feel like the interview was just to make sure we were able to communicate effectively and are balanced not only academically, but socially as well. I don’t know how heavily they are weighing the interview in our admission decision since it’s not technically conducted by someone in admissions. I also feel like the interview was designed to sell us on their program and to inform us about the school in general at a level further than what can be found on the website. It might be a method they’re using to increase the number of applicants who will accept an offer of admission (in case they get other offers from other schools). Getting an interview sure does make an applicant feel special and shows how personable and caring McIntire is. (Who wouldn’t want to go to UVa!)

An open question for all of you:

If you get offered a wait-list spot, would you accept it?

@TVisLife That’s how I was looking at the interview process. I see it as an informational chat with a transfer student to make us like UVA and encourage us to apply after getting our bachelors. I’m glad I’m at this round but if decisions go out on Friday/the weekend then I can’t see how the interview could make it or break it for me. They already have their mind set about my decision whether it’s good or bad I’ll find out by May 1st. I just don’t see a point of an interview at this point if I’ve been rejected already except for marketing their school.

There was an option for a Friday interview too so I’m think that decisions might go out during the weekend.

I took a screen shot, but how do I upload it?

Yes!!! @lowrancc

@Raygan10 post to imgur . Com and post the link here. Youll have to remove a period in the url to post
