UVA Fall 2018 Transfer Thread

I thought march 1. Call the financial aid office

Submitted my application February 26th and still have not got my sis info…

@uvact123 I submitted on Feb. 20, didn’t get SIS info until March 2; I don’t think you need to worry, you should definitely get it sometime this week.

Can someone chance me:

Second Year Transfer
Current school: Grinnell College (Top 20 LAC)
Current GPA: 3.6
High School GPA: 3.9 W
ACT: 34
School applying for: SEAS (biomedical engineering)
Previous major: Biochemistry

In-state resident
Legacy: My mom went to UVA Law School
Essays: Fairly strong

EC’s:

  • Former college football player (tore my ACLs, decided to quit) (wrote my essays on this)
  • Political internship in DC
  • Summer camp jobs
  • Clinical internship
  • National Honor Society

Drawbacks:

  • Coming from a LAC trying to get into the school of engineering
  • Not all prerequisites for SEAS fufilled (not offered at my school)

@naru123 as a second year transfer it’s very hard for anyone to chance you, as it’s more selective and competitive. However, your stats, ec’s, and legacy make you a very strong fit! Good luck! If you were applying as a 3rd year i’d say you have a good chance.

@dukesilverissaxy @Collegehelp4us the UVA transfer blog says Financial Aid is due April 1

Debatable. He has amazing stats and is instate. It’s not hard to chance this guy at all

Out of curiosity, where else are you guys applying (if anywhere)? I’ve got 3 total: UVA, Vanderbilt, and Georgetown.

I’m applying to 2 total: UVA and Virginia Tech in the schools of engineering for both.

I’m only applying instate. UVA, W&M, VT

UVA, Virginia Tech, and George Mason

I love how we’re all sitting here stalking this website lol. Is anyone else obsessively checking every day for no reason?

Lol yes. Glad I thought I wasn’t the only one. I refresh this page and Tech’s Fall 2018 thread like every few hours
just to see if anything popped up. More so for Tech’s because they’ll probably give out decisions before UVA does.

Same, same. I’m (with very strong illusion) hoping to see some kind of financial aid reward to signal I got in… but it’s not even two weeks after apps were due LOL

lmao I can relate

Anyone else on spring break this coming week. Finally a bit of time to take my head away from school work.

All,

I am currently First year and am looking to transfer. I am currently enrolled at a local Virginia school, and am applying to the CAS as a Psychology major.

Second Semester Midterm Report: 4.0

Work Experience:
Have been working 20 hours a week since the start of my Senior year in HS.

2 recommendations from my professors.

is that a weighted HS GPA out of 4.0? How do your ACT and SAT scores look.

Here is something interesting for students applying to McIntire. Also interesting for other colleges, because it shows a general trend. I’d send the link, but somehow CC never approves them.

This is from the McIntire blog:
“The applicant pool increased by 12%, to 566 total applications. Of the UVA students who applied, the School will ultimately be able to admit 320-335 students. The applicants once again presented remarkably strong credentials, with an average UVA cumulative GPA of 3.59. On March 8, Admission Committee decisions will be emailed to applicants. Of the 566 students who applied, the committee offered admission to 295 applicants, deferred admission for 96 applicants, and declined admission to 175 applicants.”

Here are the interesting takeaways:

  1. As expected, the applicant pool is still growing, which will probably be true for external transfers as well.
  2. 320-335 students are to be accepted, which I believe includes both internal AND external transfers. With about 30 external transfers being accepted each Fall, this makes sense.
  3. 295 Applicant have been accepted already, which leaves between 30-40 spots for external transfers. Nevertheless, this depends a lot on the amount of students accepting their offer and deffered students receiving an offer.

Furthermore:

  1. Average GPA for accepted was 3.77
  2. Average GPA for deffered was 3.5
  3. Highest GPA rejected was 3.8

Keep in mind a UVA 4.0 GPA is way harder than a CC 4.0, so these averages should be seen as very competitive.

Good to note, since 2011 from what I’ve seen most 4.0 GPAs from NVCC ended up getting in. Scratch that, ALL. I’m ot sure if transferable credits have anything to do with it, but 4.0s with solid classes got in
