Last year they ran out of housing for transfers pretty early on. People were scrambling to find housing. Luckily there are no off grounds shortages and there are Facebook pages to match people up
I do have a source in the admissions office, thank you for asking. My best friend’s cousin’s boyfriend worked as an intern in the admissions office a few years back and she said less than 10 percent of the calls she answered were from prospective sophomore transfers.
Hmmm I think I’ll refer to the real stats on this.
chances of being getting accepted?
Electrical engineering student applying to nova
good stuff:
-approx 3.9 college gpa
-nova student 1st year
-38 credits
-2 great recommendations
-good essay/application
-4.0 mid term GPA(most likely will get 4.0 gpa this semester)
-lots of extracurricular activities
-West asian
Bad stuff
-did pretty bad in college 3.1 GPA(had a excuse on college application tho) and I didnt take Sat/act
-I also submitted my mid year reports pretty late (this week)
also forgot to mention I don’t have all the general ed requirements for Seas.
Sorry for so many questions lol, but I applied to UVA during high school and got waitlisted. For ECs, was I supposed to rewrite my high school ECs or were they saved from last year? Also, are high schools ECs irrelevant or are they still helpful?
Call or email admissions on that one. Could be helpful as a second year.
Hey everyone- I just heard about the transfer housing shortage from last year and I was wondering if you guys knew more about it/are worried that you won’t get housing too? I am hopefully coming from out of state and I will need to live on grounds… agh!!!
@machlan I’d think that if you accept your admissions offer quickly enough that it shouldn’t be an issue. So it should only be an issue for people, who are still waiting for other universities to respond. Although, I too want to live on campus as well, I believe Charlottesville offers a lot of housing opportunities near campus.
Heck, I’d sleep need to Donald Trump every night if it meant I got to go to UVA. I’ll cross that bridge when (if!) I get to it.
@machlan So the housing crisis was awful last year but they actually ended up putting a lot of us in the International Residential College (which is probably more transfer students than international students). I guess it differs year-to-year but it’s definitely something you want to apply for as soon as possible. I was pretty high on the housing waitlist and I didn’t hear back until August 13th!
@Lorena221 How is the housing? Would you recommend it? Do you have enough space, is it clean etc…? It would be awesome to hear an opinion!
Let’s have a little perspective! It’s not a “crisis” if you don’t get your first choice of housing.
There’s a surplus of housing in Charlottesville and landlords/developers keep building apartment complexes.

It didn’t make a difference when you deposit. The numbers for on grounds housing were completely random. We lucked out b/c a current student was looking to get out of his ongrounds lease and we took it over. Waiting until August 13th would not have been a good option for us. Too close for comfort! I’m glad to hear that they were able to accommodate those that still needed a place.
Oh, yeah, of course, I meant to say that on-Grounds housing was hard to find. @Vincent1997 I’ve only been in the IRC but I love it! They have weekly meal events and while I’m a bit farther from my classes than most of my friends, it’s just a ten-minute walk to one of the dining halls. It was just renovated so everything is really nice and we actually have AC! I’d say that the rooms are pretty big compared to my last two dorms but most people opt to loft their beds anyway. Housekeeping doesn’t come on the weekends so the common areas can get a bit messy but other than that, it’s pretty clean. I know that Lambeth is specifically for transfer students so I would definitely check that out!
@“Dean J” throw us a bone and get those decisions out a week early? <3
lol @msport i’m sure she would if she could
Thank you for replying, @Lorena221 ! You made me feel a lot better, ha!
When my son looks at his SIS login page under the “my applications” section there is a green circle that says “view decision” does this mean his decision has been made and UVA just isn’t sharing it yet? Or does everyone have this appear as soon as all of the application information was received?
Everyone has it.
