@uvahopeful2011 You can say exactly same thing about you, all “statistic” that you have is from college conf. forum.
@Vincent1997 Exactly, but you are not arguing my point. I never said that having 4.0 is disadvantage or doesn’t mean anything. I said that Admission doesn’t look ONLY AT YOUR GRADE. Because according to both of you, if you have 4.0 GPA you will get in even if you write about benefits of holocaust.
I recommend people do research with the links given by Dean J and maybe look back to past years for chances on themselves. I saw a lot of ignorant comments tonight posted purely on emotion and not an ounce of objectivity.
Lol I check this thread after two hours and World War III has broken out. Just one more day of waiting guys relax. Also if someone has certain stats from out of state or in state, there’s no need to judge them like the way @uvahopeful6014 did. I understand you for being straightforward but you don’t have to be a prick towards other people and call out their stats. You seem fired up for whatever reason so just chill tf out.
@Niaxe42 You shouldn’t be disregarding someone who has a 4.0 GPA. I ended with one last semester and I can tell you from personal experience that it by no means is an easy thing to do. My average sleep amount was 4 hours and I was working my arse off for every single grade. So it’s stupid to say that a 4.0 is “common.” It takes a lot of work to do and grades have a majority of influence in the decision process.
I’m pretty sure @uvahopeful6014 is trying to say that you need a higher gpa for people who don’t have any extracurricular activities, like me for example. He’s not saying that people with 3.6s have no chance, it’s just that they will most likely need some other aspects like ECs whereas if you have none you probably need a 3.8+ if you want to be competitive. So I do agree that my 3.9 without ECs is comparable to a 3.6 with ECs, but let’s be real here, they’re both nothing to be thrown out… at least I hope…
I dont think anyone should be chancing anyone else, or putting people down and telling them they arent getting in. I know people who applied to transfer after one year and had multiple Cs, and transferred to community colleges and still got in. Anything is possible and I think we should all be positive and hopeful and keep our opinions of others to ourselves.
@iamworried264 I see your point, but it’s really messed up that @uvahopeful6014 called someone out on probably getting rejected by mentioning their stats. Basically just being a prick for no reason whatsoever.
Wow relax people. Make sure you all wear nametags with screen names at orientation. That will make things interesting. think positive you just never know what they are looking for.
@beachgrl148 Exactly what I’m saying. It’s not right to tell someone they won’t get in; specially by calling out there stats. Considering were so close now, what @uvahopeful6014 did is foolish.
@CTUR782 Exactly, my dude, it took you a lot of work and nobody is saying that 4.0 doesn’t mean anything. My point is not that 4.0 is nothing special, my point is that your single GPA digit is not a decisive factor in your admission. I will repeat myself, some schools are way easier than others. After many years of admission process UVA knows in what schools/regions it’s easier to maintain GPA. That’s why they look at your whole common app. You need to understand that UVA is a pretty prestigious school and obviously there will be way more applicants with 4.0 GPA than some other less attractive school.
It feels like you guys don’t read my posts, you read first sentence and then go typing about how wrong I am and then go typing about how hard it is to get 4.0 and that not all 4.0 are kids sitting on momma’s neck. Which exactly confirms my point that UVA cannot possibly judge you by single digit and without looking at your application as a whole.
I’ll remind you that I was arguing @uvahopeful6014 words that 4.0 can carry you no matter of who you are and what you are doing.
You’re clearly mad bro. I didn’t use any ad hominems and chanced a low GPA applicant. Being extra supportive and sugar coating a chance me post will only make the applicant feel worse if bad news does arrive Friday. Who knows he could be one of the outliers and get in. My point is that there’s not a very great chance of an acceptance with a low GPA after only 1 semester of grades at a CC
@uvahopeful6014 I’m not mad, but you’re doing it again. “Who knows he could be one of the outliers” Did that guy ever ask for your opinion? There are some things which we think, but don’t say. I understand your point that someone with a low GPA in the first semester won’t have a great chance but that doesn’t give you the right to call specific people out personally and tell them they won’t get in. The fairytale thing was for @Niaxe42 in reference to how essays could get you admitted even with a low GPA. @Niaxe42 Sorry bro if it hurts you, but at the collegiate level a 4.0 is a 4.0 no matter where you got it from.
@CTUR782 That’s alright, everybody can keep their opinion. But keep in mind that you are not arguing just with me, you are also arguing with Dean J words.
Haha it was a chance me post buddy. He was looking for feedback so I gave my opinion on the upward trend he claimed. So yes in a way that dude was looking for opinions.
Do you realize that admissions is a business and they want everyone to apply? On the website and transfer blog, DeanJ explicitly writes that students are most competitive with a B average. Later on during the admission process it’s revealed that actually a 3.5+ is the average GPA. 70 bucks for an application is quite attractive and they make lots of money. Once again, you should go back on last years thread and even further back if you want a chance. Oh yes and I did not say a 4.0 alone is enough technically. If you aren’t taking the correct courses, they won’t admit you because you need those credits to be on pace at UVA also. Again my assumption is that almost everyone is already taking transferable courses otherwise what’s the point in applying?
@uvahopeful6014 Alright fair enough, but still don’t you think it was a bit savage to go at him like that. Give the guy some hope, specially with decisions so close. Maybe you could have just worded it better but whatever, this conversation is pointless.
@Niaxe42 I understand that they look at more than just your GPA, but they aren’t gonna produce miracles if your GPA isn’t competitive. The way you stated it is that a 4.0 is easier to get at different universities which is false. The material is the same everywhere and if someone get’s a 4.0 no matter the college, it’s because they worked their butt off.
@Niaxe42 I got to a community college, so according to your logic it wasn’t too bad to get a 4.0 because my school was easier than others. Pretty ignorant statement imo. A 4.0 is common in high school, but in college it’s rare and it should be praised.
