Very different schools - your best bet is to go with the one that feels the most like "home" to you - the school that you'll be happiest at. In college, you tend to do substantially better when you're in a good situation - when you are in sync with your environment. Go to the school that will set you up to succeed.

I keep on wondering why you guys keep on mentioning sports when talking about UVA, what has sports got to do with getting an excellent education, if its sports you want stay home and watch ESPN. You will be doing your parents a favor too.

Sports contribute to social life. That is likely not a concrete concept to you right now as an HS senior, but it will be in about 6 months. Believe me.

On my honor as a southern gentleman, I truly did. UVA came as a relatively small envelope with "An Invitation" having white flowers plus building background. W&M was a big orange folder with a URL printed on the front. However, as the once solid Deep South has clearly been corrupted by "men" like cavalier302, I will have no choice but to migrate north, where hopefully I can maintain the dignity and values of the South, which as mentioned, was once embodied in W&M.

Remember, sv3a, there is no such thing as "better schools", only better fit. But given that this is coming from an insecure teenager, who have yet to grow into a southern gentleman (or lady, dunno), I shall forgive you. Admission is very cruel and I pity your heart, which had to undergo such torment. However, there is no reason you should feel inferior for attending the University of Virginia; obviously, only such sense of inferiority could have given you the concept of so called better schools. A mans worth depends on how well he preserves the old southern values; it is not dependant on the decisions of those corrupt carpetbaggers who now occupies the seats on the once illustrious admission councils.

Sadness, my dear, is a subjective matter. As long as you do not feel sad about attending UVA, which as mentioned in no way degrades you as long as you do not let your heart be degraded by those other admission authorities, then there truly is no sadness to speak of. I personally would never think less of you simply because you attend the University of Virginia; I will judge you as a gentleman or lady, by your worthiness of our time-honored southern values.

OMG Zhonggong, you're so crazy! You know, by you acting insane, it makes other people think that W&M's student body is comprised of weird students.

You are what you write.

If we're going to help people decide which school would be a better fit for them, let's have a more constructive conversation rather than this silly discourse.

I just want everyone to know that Zhongdong's views do not reflect the opinions of all W&M students...

I can't say anything about UVA, but I've gone to W&M for a year and here is my impression of it:

If you like to drink, party, go to sports games, have free time, and not be stressed out, don't go to W&M. Most kids at W&M are very polite and approachable, though. Kids constantly complain about the school, the workload, lack of hot girls, and I get the impression that many kids (including myself) battle with depression daily. W&M is definitely a good fit for some people (ie. people who like to devote themselves to their work,) but if you want to have the "typical college experience," go to UVA. That's just my two cents.

hahahha this discussion is very funny but here are some stats to ponder:
W&M Student to Faculty Ratio: 11/1 UVA: 15/1
Diversity: Def. in UVA's favor (80%+ of W&M is white)
Freshmen Retention: UVA-97% (above schools like GT, Brown, pretty much above most of the ivy leagues) W&M-95%

W&m as mighty meals pointed out is just work no play while UVA finds a nice mix between the two which can explain why they have the highest suicide rate of any national college in the nation lol but you cant go wrong with either (maybe?)

awh, Untilted, such arrogance. Mr. TJ would be turning over in his grave (I assume he was buried but not sure) if he knows such an unpleasant individual might be attending his university. sigh

And Globalist, it is ok not to know thy Azian language. But it is not ok to go on a senseless diatribe. As you can see, I have used substantive evidence to support the points I make. That is the true spirit of Enlightenment, of which Mr. TJ is a devoted pupil.
