I was wondering what would be an overall better choice, the UVA School of Commerce or UPenn Econ, if i were to be pursuing a career in marketing?

Most undergraduate business schools, including McIntire, will have a specific marketing program as one of its concentrations. It seems that this would better prepare you for your field of interest compared to a BA in Economics. If both interest you, it is entirely possible to double major in these two areas at UVa (and probably UPenn).

Marketing degree for a marketing career! Hands down. You can do both however as robertr is saying! I encourage a double major. I would say however that for marketing, it may be better to do marketing with a major that is more supportive (think media design, communications, something along those lines–not sure which though). Marketing involves companies, but maybe not the economy as a whole. Talk to some people in the marketing industry and ask them what they feel is the best 2nd major!

I’d apply to both and hope you get a chance to ask yourself this question. The odds are high that you won’t have a choice between the two.

One big plus of Penn is that you are accepted as a freshman.
