uva transferring

i'm in my first year of college at virginia military institute. ii was wondering my chances of getting in at a gpa of 3.3. i'm also instate. i am trying to attend uva during the fall semester. do they look into your spring semester grades during the application process as well or only the fall semester. thanks

any help please?

...... bump?

that's probably on the low side

are you a first year? if so what are your highschool stats/sat scores?
I'm trying to transfer to UVA from tech...i'm a first year and gotta 4.0 with a 1310 on SATs and a 3.6 in highschool...i talked to Dean Roberts (head of transfer admissions at UVA) and he said i wasn't a clear shot but considered competetive...if you have a good gpa for first semester and bad highschool gpa they'll wait list you and see if you can keep it up next semester and if there's a spot they'll let you in. They consider second years solely by college gpa but they'll weigh in mad highschool if you're only a first year

I'm a second year college student out of state. This sucks. I had a 4.0 and was valedictorian in high school and only have a 3.68 college gpa (Ithaca College). 1380 SATS and avg II's (660,620,600). So strong high school record means nothing if you are second year?

i talked to Greg Roberts also and he told me that they it is harder for students to transfer from 4 year schools to another vs. 2 year degree then transfer. He told me that i have a really good shot at getting in and i have a 3.3 from CVCC.

rank 65/488, 4.43 gpa at the end of my high school what college gpa should i try to get to be a goodappplicant for uva transfer? oh SATI- 1300; sat Ii= 700,700,660

If i go to VCU?
if i go to tech?
also plz comment on whether its going to be hard for me to get good grades, if ihave this gpa and 4 AP classes

jw, why are you transfering from tech?

nahrafsfa

since you are already at Tech, you will probably need a good reason for wanting to transfer. Good luck, i will be battling with you for one of those 700 spots. Mr. Roberts has told me that i have a better shot than most because i will have completed an Associates Degree. BEST OF LUCK TO YA !!!!

why does he wanna go to UVA? why not? i mean i am not a big fan of tech, so i dont wanna go there, even ifi iwas, i would transfer 2) uva is better than tech in general 3) maybe he got rejected from uva last eyar, and he is aiming for it again... anyways, i am going to vcu, i think thats a much crappy school and should make it easier for me to writ stuff about how it sucks

i have no doubt that you will get into VCU. Tech is a top 100 school and they actually better in certain degree's vs UVA. If you got into Tech, go there and be proud because it is a good school. Don't go to VCU because you want to go to UVA. Choose the best school for now because you may not get into UVA eventually. I want to go to UVA too but if i don't i will be more than happy to go to NC State or Tech because they are GREAT schools also.

Techs 45 minutes away from my hometown and I NEED TO GET AWAY. Plus, i'm tryin to do the prelaw thing so UVA would be better for it....number 2 public school in the nation...can't complain with that. Plus...i love the Virginia campus and i have lots of friends down there. i didn't apply last year...i actually got denied by wake forest :-. i actually never considered uva for some reason...i think it's cuz i knew i wasn't gonna get in wit my highschool stats and former SATs lol. Yeah Roberts told me i have strong stats, i'm not a clear shot in, BUT i'm going to be really competetive. They'll look at my improvement in my senior year of highschool and the classes i'm taking.

Negatives about tech - can you say a tad bit too obsessed with their football team? football players get faculty/staff parking passes, get front of the line in registration, stores around campus, food places, etc., ride around in expensive cars that they couldn't possibly afford and act like they own the world.
Blacksburgs is SOOOOOOOOOO boring....MIDDLE OF NOWHERE...C-villes around richmond, D.C., VA. BEACH, etc.
I need a challenge in life...Tech classes remind me of AP at my highschool...did i mention our AP classes were a joke and i got a 2 and a 3 on the 2 exams i took.
...go Hoos :-P
I've noticed there's a lot of "cliqing" at tech as well...ppl seclude themselves in their own groups. Black with black white with white, indian with indian, etc. I mean yeah...you'll have some convergence but it's more common to see ppl around with others "similar to themselves." UVA you don't really have a choice...52% minorities so you know...more diverse crowd.
But yes...main reason i'm transfering...boredom....c-villes not exactly NYC but it's better than blacksburg by far....and Tech was my safety school...i told myself i'd never go there and fate made me a hokie.

And yeah....2 years associate degree is favored...mostly over community colleges though.

chrichnessil - keep ATLEAST a 3.8 or 3.7 in college, finish most of your transfer requirements, and you should have no trouble getting in.

UVA is 70% white...

I really don't like Tech's campus all that well i am also applying for Engineering school at ODU and i will strongly consider that option if I don't get into UVa. If i wanted to transfer later from ODU, I would imagine that i would have a better chance at UVa then i would if I were at Tech. April is not coming soon enough for me!!!

yeah you're right....66% white. Projections are that minorities will outnumber whites in a few years though :-P.

WELL...if you're going to do engineering i'd HIGHLY recommend Va. Tech. They've got a reallygood engineering program and their research programs and internships are good as well. UVa also has an excellent engineering program. If you'd like to transfer to UVa your best bet would be to pull a high gpa for 3 or 4 semesters and then transfer.

some one said about transfer credits? is that hard to get? i mean it should be easy to get all the credits right... just take some courses

well it depends on the school you want to get in...the college of arts and sciences, the engineering school, teaching school, nursing school, etc. They all have a different number/type of classes you'll need to take to transfer in to UVa. Like...for the College of A&S you have to have 3 hours of English comp, 6 hours of social science, 9 hours of math/lab science, 3 hours of cultural study (other than western culture), Foreign language, 3 hours of history, 3 hours of philosophy/religion/etc., 3 hours of english lit, etc. You can find all the requirements at www.virginia.edu/undergradadmission under the transfer student section
