Were you in-season this semester?

does your gpa transfer to uva? or can u blow off thsi semester and get a fresh start at uva?

I mean, I don't think you can blow off the semester, since the acceptance letter said that the offer of admission was contingent on our keeping respectable grades. I'd never heard of their supposed policy of allowing students to start fresh with their GPAs, though.

Your GPA starts anew at every new school you attend. Like someone mentioned, Grad Schools will look at each...

Hey JMUgrl, what sport do you play?

who got their financial aid letters yet?

You can't blow off the semester...you still need your credits to graduate unless you wanna spend an extra year or 2 in college, and your admission is always conditional to a certain extent...say you drop from a 4.0 to a 3.8...i doubt that'd make much of a difference...now...if you drop from a 3.6 to a 3.2 that kinda says something.....

and you need 30 or more hours to transfer...if you suddenly drop in your classes and don't meet that 30 hour requirement they could easily defer you for it...note you could do this if you didn't get a C average in a majority of your classes...NOTHIN under a C...not even a C- is eligible for transfer credit....some colleges are even reluctant to grant a C for some classes...for example...if you got a C in precalculus in college...they'd consider denying you that credit

Where should we send the final transcripts? I am in SF now so I do not have my papers. Online I was able to find the address for first year applicants, so I am not sure if it is the same. Please help. Thanks.

Well it looks im ending the year off with a 3.8...wish UVa would have seen this semester :\ ahh well.

Wow JMUgirl, like Katt said, you are very lucky. This whole admissions game is crazy I suppose. I guess you had a really amazing HS record?

If I hit 3.9 for the semester (depends on my econ exam tomorrow) I think I will write to Dean Roberts. Couldn't hurt right?

Goods news is I might be eligible to be a University Honors student at VT. I got all the application materials yesterday. That would be an amazing experience. Registering for classes before 28,000 people! hahaha

VA Mike what classes are you going to take next semester if you go to VT?.....Run them by me and I can recommend some fabulous professors...I've had good luck last 2 semesters with picking out great instructors.

But just a hint of advice if you wanna get your english lit/foreign lit requirement out of the way...take Greek and Roman Mythology with Terry Papillon....the guys hilarious and really nice....you'll love the class!

nahrafsfa, I'm not sure what classes I needed to take because I haven't gotten a credit evaluation yet. I will definently post the classes I am taking once I find out though. Thanks

VA_Mike: I would definitely write Dean Roberts. I'm surprised you didn't get in in the first place. Keep sending them updated info. They will see your strong desire and perseverance.

yep...and if they don't swing the decision, then apply for spring and i'm sure you'll have a great chance

VA_Mike, I doubt it could hurt you, so I see no reason for you to not write the letter. At the same point, don't get you hopes up to the point of possible disappointment. If you were waitlisted, I think it would help you a lot more. But now, you'd have to jump the waitlisted kids. I'd still suggest going for it though. If I was in your situation, I probably would go for it too.

Out of curiosity, what were your HS GPA and SATs?

It looks like its going as planned! I just found out I got a 100 on my calculus final haha. But I am not getting my hopes up. I know its a slim chance. But I just got called today for an internship in Tysons Corner. It's for an advertising firm that manages the ad campaigns for Verizon, UPS, and Sam's Club, to name a few. My interview is on Monday...if I get this internship AND 3.8+ cum GPA for the year, I am definently going to write Dean Roberts. It is rare for a college freshman to get any kind of internship, let alone one this good. Works well with my Marketing Management major.

Toph, my HS record is without a doubt what hurt me in admissions. My GPA was only a 3.2, but I have been in the IB program since 7th grade (MYP to IB). As IB students, we were always told that a "C in an IB class is better than an A in regular class." How wrong our counselors were...

Many kids from my HS who were in regular classes got into good schools, while many smart IB kids didn't get into the same schools because their GPA was lower. I am more than convinced now that college admissions is 95%+ all about plain numbers...well for most schools

"As IB students, we were always told that a "C in an IB class is better than an A in regular class." How wrong our counselors were..."

You are so right!!! I've seen the same thing happen with some of my classmates. The ones that took standard classes and aced everything got into the more competitive schools, unlike those that were borderline in AP/Honors classes.

so not true....counselers can be the worst ppl sometimes...for example...this girl didn't get in to the school of her choice because my highschool counseler sent an empty envelope to the admissions office...really they just want to get everything over with and have students ask the least amount of questions as possible...i mean sure they're helpful in some instances, but in many, they just don't know and ofcourse they dont' want to admit it, because it ruins their reputation....and often they want to make the student feel more confident than they should, jsut because they think it'll help them perform better, even though sometimes it can give them less incentive to work hard.

hey acceptancees.. you can check your transcript/test scores on UVA's ISIS system. Your id is your social security #, and password is birthdate monthyear&monthyear (eg 0431&0431).

For some reason they messed up my test scores.. I got a 1490 and they put my lower scores from freshmen year

lies lies all lies!...i got accepted april 15th and alas...i still don't see my scores dammit!!!
