UVA VS Emory

HI, I was accepted into both UVA and Emory. I intend to study philosophy and, perhaps, English and want to prepare myself for grad school. From the info I have gathered, Emory has great undergraduate education with smaller classes and UVA is strong in humanities in general. Which one do you think will prepare me better for grad school? Thank you very much.

Both schools are outstanding for your major. Why not go to admitted students days at both universities and make your decision based on where you feel more comfortable (assuming finances aren’t an issue)?

Same. Equally great. But different on campus experience. I would choose for personal fit versus any academic advantage. They are considered two of the best schools in the world.

What will prepare you most for grad school is choosing the school that is the most affordable and most comfortable. You don’t want to go too far into debt for undergrad. At both schools, if you take advantage of the opportunities you’ll be successful.

Which one feels like a better fit? Have you toured both? Would you rather be in a city like Atlanta or a college town like Charlottesville? Do you want a large university with a big party scene, school spirit and sports like UVA or a tight knit school like Emory?

It seems like smaller classes are most important to you. In that case, I’d pick Emory. I’m from Atlanta and I loved it there. However, UVA might be better for the reasons above and if it’s more affordable.

Size Matters…

D18 choose UVA as a fit. She moved away from many Smaller Options with equally good academics Ex: William and Mary among others.

Individual Campus Fit is Key. If both offer the academics where “One” can excel then visit and fully explore the Campus Vibe. The Student Body and the Nature of the Professors in the area of study.

Listen to how and what others have to say about their overall experience and opinions of the Professors.

UVA checked all the Boxes for D18

Visit & your decision should be easy as the environments are quite different.

OP: Why not post an update as to which school you chose & why ?
