UVA vs UConn Honors

Hello Community!

I want to go into Biomedical engineering with a pre-med track

I got into UConn HP and can go for instate tuition due to the regional school program (22k / year). I also got into UVA. I get no fin aid for either.

My rents say they can afford around 20k per year. I am hoping to accrue another 5-10k from all the scholarships I am applying for and I plan on getting a job on campus wherever I go.

I understand that med schools primarily focus on MCAT and SAT scores but would UVA's BME program connection to the hospital (they say that the BME dept is more closely associated with the school of medicine than the Engineering school) better prepare me for med school rather than just going to UConn? Is it worth the extra 20k / year for that advantage?

Any help or comments would be great! Thanks!

The link to the UVA Hospital does have advantages for students aiming for the health professions, and you would get a great education here. However, plenty of people go to UConn, do well there, and go on to med school. Since med school is expensive and it’s hard to get financial help for it–unless you want to be a military doctor, or work in a remote/underserved area–it’s not wise to get into a lot of debt for undergrad.

as a native of CT and a parent of a UVA grad, and her biomed engineer boyfriend, there’s “no contest”. getting into UVA OOS is a major accomplishment, and one noted in all programs of higher education. choose well. good luck.
