UConn HP vs UVA

Hello Community!

I want to go into Biomedical engineering with a pre-med track

I got into UConn HP and can go for instate tuition due to the regional school program. I also got into UVA. I get no fin aid for either.

My rents say they can afford around 20k per year. I am hoping to accrue another 5-10k from all the scholarships I am applying for and I plan on getting a job on campus.

I understand that med school primarily focuses on MCAT and SAT scores but would UVA's BME program connection to the hospital (they say that the BME dept is more closely associated with the school of medicine rather than the Engineering school) better prepare me for med school rather than just going to UConn? Is it worth the extra 20k / year for that advantage?

bump anyone?

If your parents can truly only contribute 20k per year, I’d say go for UConn because it will be much cheaper. If you can get good grades and score well on the MCAT, you’ll have a good shot at med school either way.

That being said - the schools are very different environments, etc. Do you have any preferences? Storrs is a small, rural town; not the best in terms of crime, but pretty; the school will have a lot of school spirit but probably slightly less of an academic focus (I’m from CT, so I looked at UConn). UVA is further south, so in a more conservative overall climate; students may have a slightly more academic focus and it’s in a great city (Charlottesville).
