I’m curious if UVM takes which college you are applying to when considering your app. In other words if the current accept rate overall is listed as 63%, are there different %'s for each college? DD is applying EA for Education, and I know it’s a small college, so I’m wondering if it will be a lot more selective.
Since there are different entry requirements (course-wise) for admission to each college, they almost certainly take the college into consideration. I do not know, though, when and how they are considered. The colleges likely do have different acceptance rates as well.
That being said, the fact that their college of education is small says nothing about how selective they are. At UIUC, there are more than 10 times as many students in their college of engineering as in their college of education, however, Engineering acceptance rate is around 20%, while that of Education is around 50%. BTW, the reputation of UIUC’s education program in the the field is almost as high as the reputation of their engineering program in their field, so it’s apples to apples.
My ds20 is a jr at UVM, and when he applied I believe he had to put a first and second choice for major. In his case that also meant school, so he put the more selective (Grossman) 1st and a major in CAS 2nd. I’m pretty sure the education programs are considered fairly average and not amongst their most highly selective majors, so I think she can trust the average acceptance rate.
Usually education is a less selective major, so I wouldn’t worry.
