I am deciding between UVM and CU Boulder, and I know a lot of people decide between these two schools. I am leaning towards UVM now, but I was wondering if anyone else has any input on deciding between these two schools!
Is $ a factor? Is distance a factor? Boulder has a much larger undergraduate population. My S is accepted to both and UVM is going to cost less after the scholarships he received. For us, Boulder involves flying and UVM does not, another cost differential. I reached out to a Boulder parent from my town. I was shocked to hear that housing is only guaranteed for freshman year and they are paying $1,300 a month on a 12 month lease for an apartment. My S has not made amy decisions but I think Boulder is going to be too expensive, with the paltry scholarship, travel costs and off campus expenses.
Money isn’t the biggest factor, but I did get a much better scholarship from UVM which is part of the reason why I am leaning towards it. As for distance, I am from Ohio, so the are pretty much equally far away. I didn’t know that housing was only guaranteed for freshman year at Boulder, thanks for telling me that.
Off campus housing is very expensive in Boulder as well. My S toured Boulder and liked it but it was too pricey for us to consider (though travel arguably cheaper for us) and he likes the smaller size of UVM. Boulder is a great town and a great school but to us it was a bit of an apples to oranges comparison due to the size difference. Boulder would have been unlikely to offer my S any merit awards so the cost differential is huge and offsets the travel difference.
I am currently deciding between boulder and uvm this is mad funny to me
