Hey! I was somehow accepted (was waitlisted) by appeal into UW Seattle, and I know the appeal process was confusing and nerve wracking. So, I thought it would be a good idea to make a thread dedicated to hyping each other up and giving out advice. Good luck on your appeals!!
When did you submit your appeal and how long did they take to get back to you?
I submitted my appeal around April 5th (I got my email then saying they got it, I submitted it probably the 3rd/4th, but I don’t remember). I found out on April 12th I got in, so very quick.
I posted a long answer to this here http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/discussion/comment/21413157/#Comment_21413157
I submitted my appeal on April 5th and found out today (April 17) that I was accepted. My appeal was almost three pages, double spaced. I explained why my grades, SAT score, and course rigor, though still stlightly above average, weren’t as good as they could have been. The situation surrounding that adds to my overall diversity and caused me to deal with and overcome significant issues. Lastly, I explained why the UW is specifically where I want to go. The main reasons are because of how my dad and aunt talked about their experiences and the comradry/community that are on campus.
@rachhed CONGRATS!!!
Were you on waitlist or reject?
Btw, just really curious that is UW’s appeal success rate the highest compare to UCs? (like UCSD, UC Irvine, UC Davis)
@kl95070 I can’t find any appeal success rates for the UC schools- I don’t think they publish that rate. At UW, though, it’s only 5%.
@Psoriasis I’m doubting is that true or not… since I feel that for people got waitlist have higher acceptance for appeal and based on what I heard/ see that people all got in through appeal (or it just happen that only those who got in speak out loud and people who didn’t got in keep silent…?)
And I barely heard anyone got into UC through appeal, so that’s why I’m making the assumption that UW has higher chance for getting accept from appeal then UC…
@kl95070 I actually have a theory as to why everybody seems to be getting admitted from appeal. This year UW picked the best of the best because the amount of applicants they got is way over the amount they usually get, but those great kids are denying them to go to more established schools like UC schools. So, I’m feeling like any waitlisted person who appeals will get in because they are having mass empty spaces, but legally can’t take anybody directly off the waitlist till May 1st.
But I think I’ve surrounded myself with people who have succeeded on their appeal, so I think I’m seeing only those who have been accepted by appeal rather than any kind of negative result.
@kl95070 thank you so much!!! It was definitely a relief and caused many happy tears! I was a waitlist. I was waitlisted last year too (I took a gap year), appealed, and obviously didn’t get in from either. I am inclined to think that this year they didn’t accept as many people right off the bat considering what happened last year. I only saw a few people last year get in via appeal and none off the waitlist, so maybe they decided to accept less to guarantee others having a chance from the waitlist.
Hey! I appealed and found out this afternoon that I was accepted as well (Also waitlisted). I appealed On April 6th, so it didn’t take a lot of time for them to get back to me at all! Good luck to everyone still waiting to hear back
@sicksadworld congrats! Welcome to UW
Just as an anecdote my friend did not get in off of this appeal.
