UW appeal responses - 2022

Sounds more like a waitlist process now. My understanding from the email is that students could commit to other colleges while still being considered for appeal…

Yes we are planning to commit to two colleges and back out from one college based on appeal decision results

When did your son submit for appeal?

He sent his appeal 4/14

He sent his appeal 4/14 - now the wait game

Can you accept admission from two colleges? I hear that there is some legal language shown during acceptance that prohibits you from doing that.

I am confused…say after may 1st we get positive appeal decision ,will UW allow me accept the offer after may 1st?

Why is double depositing unethical?

It’s deceitful. Students know they can only attend one college, so they are essentially lying when they notify more than one that they intend to enroll.

It’s unfair to the college. If the practice continues, colleges may find they can’t predict the size of the incoming class with any accuracy. They may take actions such as enlarging the waiting list or increasing deposit amounts (both of which will impact future applicants).

It’s unfair to other applicants. The double depositor is taking up a spot that could go to another student, who will instead be put on a waiting list or turned down.

Unless you get permission from both colleges involved that you can deposit at both and enroll, you should not be double depositing. Colleges could rescind both acceptances if found out.

Contact UW and ask since your CS appeal decision will be made after the May 1 deadline.

Thanks for the info,I will contact UW admission office .

This is the key para that states you will be able to confirm enrollment at a later date if your CS appeal is successful. I recommend confirming enrollment at other college until you hear back on your appeal.

I did not receive this and I appeal on 4/8

Nvm I was rejected just now

We just received similar email stating that we will get appeal response after May 1st. We had submitted an appeal on 3/30.

More waiting looks like…I have not received any email yet

I submitted mine mid March and got the email too…
Most appeal acceptances for das have already been given and this is coming from aos so rn just be prepared for a rejection.

I do really appreciate them waiting until after May 1st for the people who they were going to reject because a lot of people never really turn down their offer for colleges, esp uw cs. Ik a lot of friends who are going somewhere else ( not cs specifically, all majors) but don’t want to spend the time rejecting the offer, so they just wait until may 1st for the colleges to automatically reject them anyway. Although this won’t open up a ton of spots, especially because uw cs is really prestigeous and not many people would choose another school unless it’s an ivy or above uw’s ranking, it might open about 10 spots. These 10 spots will go to the people who aos think deserve it the most through another ‘holistic’ review of their appeal ie: reason, passion, and especially ecs and accomplishments.

I also just received this, and I submitted my appeal on March 8th.

I think they sent that email to everyone.

Can

Yes. Can you do it without getting caught? Likely yes. Is it unethical, also yes. You are taking a spot that could be opened to someone else.

I think you responded to the wrong poster since I was the one that posted double depositing was unethical.
