UW appeal responses - 2022

called admission office today to check on the status.Did not get a straight fwd answer. They asked us to check for results sometime soon.

I have heard 50% of students come from direct-to-major route, 30% from current UW students and 20% are transfer students. Those are rough estimates. I think last year way more students accepted admission in DTM than they anticipated (this wasn’t unique to UW. Look up UC Berkeley legal issues) - 598 vs capacity of 550 (source: High School Students | Paul G. Allen School of Computer Science & Engineering ) so this year they are holding back to see how many seats are left unfilled before they extend offers. (Warning:Those numbers may be completely off).

I believe they have reviewed all applications, ranked them and ready to go unless there are no seats. They will most likely do rolling admissions until they fill all the seats. I hope you understand, All of this is just guess work. In reality, this is all very complicated where you have to consider the obligations that come with being a state funded university.

“sometime soon” is this week or a week later? Guess we all will know soon.
Anyone see any in-state successful CS appeal? I have seen numerous rejects. Curious to know if any appeal was successful yet.

Another verified data point for 2022 Paul G Allen School (includes out of state, international)
484 admitted students
21% are first or one of the first in family to get a bachelors degree
40% women.

Yes it was a vague answer.May be when you try calling them, you might get a different response.

So this year UW admitted 484 (DTM) for CS compared to 598 last year. lower by 114. not sure how many they will accommodate via appeals.

What’s the source for the data? Their capacity is 550 so that means 66 more students. :man_shrugging:t2:

Unless they reduce the 66 spots by the excess 49 students from last year?

The data was presented to admitted CS students in one of the orientation. So the data is authentic.

If that’s the case it does not make sense for holding up many appeal decision cases

DTM accounts only ~50-70% of capacity. Remaining are for transfer students and then small amount for current UW students.

I know 5 including me appealing for CS.
2 of them got positive appeal decision
2 of them including me waiting for results
1 of them got rejected

When did they get the positive appeal decision? This week or before May 1st?

Early April

Thank you. In state or OOS?

@Prabs, let us know if the two you know are in state or OOS. I know 2 successful appeals (before May 1) that were OOS.

We are also waiting for appeal decision. In-state

All of them including me are instate and they are my school friends

Any discernible patterns among those accepted or rejected?

When did your friends appeal?
