UW Autumn 2018 Transfer Discussion (University of Washington)

Got an email from UW Housing and Food Services on 5/4 which reads as follow:
No matter where you live on the University of Washington campus, you’ll be surrounded by social and learning opportunities that make the Husky Experience your own unique adventure. We know you have lots of questions about housing options at the UW, so we’ve prepared this Residential Application Guide to help you with your on-campus housing search.
The application opens at 2 p.m. Pacific Time on May 10.
Demand for on-campus housing is high and space is limited, so apply as early as possible.

Hope to get message from Foster this week

Have any of you thought about minoring & if so in what?

I want to minor in business and maybe social media marketing of some kind.

still nothing on my uw page :frowning:

@golddawgs are you a psych major?
& @dallycpoz SAME! :frowning: it sucks

Finally after a week UW has finally replied back to my email about changing my major and it was kind of confusing. The email said my application has gone under an initial review and the admissions advisor went on about deficiencies for the major I wanted, which I already knew. I sent a reply back because it wasn’t very helpful, but hey at least they looked at my application.

I guess what they are saying is that my Math 146 (Intro to statistics) isn’t enough for UW and I’d be deficient in Math. They want like Math 98, elementary functions, calculus, and beyond and also said I wouldn’t be able to take it at UW… which is confusing because I know UW has those classes.

Wow, they now said I will be denied admissions if I don’t complete another math class… anyone who has gotten in what math classes did you take, I’m extremely confused. I completed all the requirements of my Associates and it’s not enough for UW and they won’t even let me take it there.

@julietjuju3 Although you have completed your requirements for your AA, they may not match up with UW’s requirements. The way I’ve done my AA is basically kill as many birds with as little stones at possible. So I took classes that met both requirements. I’d ask them what you should and exactly what you need because you already have your AA so it’s kind of too late. Ask them how you should go about that. Dang, that’s awful. I’m so sorry you’re in this situation.

@golddawgs They said if I take Math 098 I’d meet the requirement for admissions for Fall 2018. Which is so ass backward because I’m already at the college level. I messaged my advisor at my CC to see if that is even possible even though I already have my AA, so we’ll see. If this was any other school, i’d drop them but since it’s my dream school and I worked my ass off to get the grades needed for UW, I’ll do what it takes.

If all you need is Math98 credit @julietjuju3 it should be a pretty chill class to take over the summer. You can just tell them that you’re taking it this summer, and they shouldn’t have a problem since those credit are “in progress.”

Sucks you gotta pony up a few hundred bucks for the credits, but the material should be ezpz.

@julietjuju3 Isn’t math 098 a prerequisite of 146?

It is. @spreader But I took math 096 instead to get into Math 146. and UW apparently wants Math 98 too. I just don’t know how that will work with my degree and i’m graduating next month. @uwcse2020 Thank you! I think it will be easy because i’ll be taking it online with a teacher I already know, and I just took Math 146 winter quarter and passed with a 4.0 so it shouldn’t be too bad. Yeah it does suck I’d have to waste money on it, but it could be worth it.

@julietjuju3 id like to minor in either anthropology or geography to give the environmental studies major that i applied for more of a focus in a certain area. now i am nervous about the math requirement because i only have stats under my belt too

@sophielud I would email admissions asap about that. Because I would not have known whatsoever that I needed Math 098 instead of Statistics if I had not emailed them last week.

@julietjuju3 thanks for the heads up on this. I might be in the same boat as you.

If you have taken precalculus, however, that works too. so does Trigonometry and a few other classes. Here is the site they kept directing me too. http://admit.washington.edu/apply/freshman/policies/cadr/#mathematics
Ignore that it says, freshman because these are policies for all students. @spreader @sophielud

I’m confused so what if I didn’t take Math 98? But if that’s a pre-req how does it not count?

Okay I got a very similar email last week and mine talked about my financial aid package and how I can put down a deposit for housing, but I haven’t heard from the admissions office either!! By chance did you ever take a class at UW or applied before? When I called the HFS they said it might have had something to do with my net id and they weren’t allowed to tell me if I got in or not…
