My daughter got into UW BioE. I realize that it’s a small program. What is the chances of UW BioE undergrad students getting into UW medical school ? Is there any stats on what is the average GPA of undergrad in UW BioE major ? Thanks for your response.
Medical schools do not care about what your major is in. However, they are very interested in overall GPA as well as GPA in prerequisite courses. She will have a leg up if she does very well in calculus, physics, biology, chemistry, organic chemistry and biochemistry. While GPA is very important, med schools care about much more than that. A fantastic MCAT score as well as extracurriculars that show you understand and appreciate the field of medicine will go a long way in admissions. While GPA will keep you in the running for med school, the picture you paint of yourself will get you admitted. A good way to stand out is through, research, clinical shadowing, volunteer work, studying abroad, and things that show leadership.
Don’t quote me, but I’m pretty sure the average gpa of a UW BioE student is around 3.7. There are currently no stats that show the acceptance rate into medical school from UW. GPA and scores will get you through the first stage of the possibility of being accepted into med school. Then your personality, ideas, and contributions to your community will be considered.
