HI guys, i am an international student and have applied to a bunch of Universities (bus schools) as a transfer student from a Washington state CC to transfer for the period of Fall 2017. (cost is not an issue)
I got rejected from a lot of schools like Northeastern, NYU Stern, Ut Austin McCombs, UCB Haas, and Ivys (penn & cornell)haha and got accepted to some, thus my top picks currently are:
UVA Mcintire : Waitlisted T-T (finance)
UW Foster (Finance)
UCLA (Pre-Business Economics) what does pre mean??
UMich Ross : still waiting (finance) 3years tho!
my current dilemma is because I’m love to major in finance and UCLA doesn’t have a bus school, but it is more popular and the bus econ major is pretty hard to get into from OOS, so it holds higher prestige.
and I don’t know which school has better job placement for finance/consulting/IB, UW is in seattle (lots of tech firms), but UCLA has sillicon valley.
My parents prefer UCLA because its more popular and holds higher prestige, but I don’t know what to choose
It’s wrong to say “UCLA has silicon valley.” They are very far apart.
Last I checked, Foster is ranked #23 nationally for undergrad business and has a highly respected program in one of the fastest growing areas of the US. It is your best choice right now. UVA is ranked as a better program but is not an option for you unless you get off the WL.
Acceptance as a pre- major means that you are accepted to the university but not into the major. You would have to take economics classes and prove your standing against other UCLA pre-business economics majors.
I’d have to strongly disagree with @Magnetron. Although UW does have a very well respected undergrad business program, it doesn’t place as well as the UCLA business economics department. In addition, as a pre- econ biz major all you need to do is meet the minimum GPA requirement and you will be accepted into the program. For college freshman, that is a 3.3, but I’m not sure what a transfer student needs to get so you may want to check that. UW does a good job of placing kids, but finance/consulting/IB is largely a prestige game and UCLA wins over by a landslide. I’d recommend looking at wall street oasis if you want to learn more about breaking into IB out of UCLA.
