UW honors

I am thinking of applying to uw honors program for fall 2012, but the website does not give out a lot of information. I was wondering if any CCers were apart of this program and could tell me more about it? Is it worth it?

I was admitted to the Fall 2011 class  what do you want to know?

Is it worth it? What do you plan on studying? What do you want to do with your future? “Is it worth it” really depends on the person.

Also, whats the difference in course rigor? Is it packed with 2400s learning about every tidbit in a course, or is there the true ‘in-depth, higher level’ learning promised?

Also, how hard was it to get picked?

I was admitted to the Fall 2011 honors program too and from what they’ve told us so far, the Honors courses aren’t so much harder as it is more indepth. It’s definitely worth it, if not only for being able to put “With Honors” on your transcript, which makes you so much more appealing to schools. Plus, it’s not really like you have to do much more being part of the Honors Program. You just take a couple Honors classes that you can use to fulfill Areas of Knowledge Requirements that you need to graduate with anyway. I can’t say how hard it was to be picked because I was automatically accepted through the UW academy but I guess, in conclusion, it really is worth it

Nin10dude317: Packed with 2400s? No. There are plenty of 2300+ students who are rejected. AFAIK, they look way past test scores and GPA … they are looking more into interdisciplinary students, ones who can take multiple fields and ‘combine’ them to do something for their community.

I haven’t taken that many Honors classes (concentrating on maths, cse courses and I just finished my first year) but most students tell me that the humanities Honors courses are ‘easy GPA boosters’. I’ve definitely done a lot less work in my Honors writing class and gotten the same or higher GPA than my CSE courses

As for admissions, it’s not very straight forward to say if you’re in or not. Essays are a major ‘make-it-or-break-it’, as well as a strong combination of courses and extra curricular activities.

Uncreat1ve: WOO ACAD PERSON! /not acad but I know plenty of them :)

Haha Acads are everywhere.
