Talk about a delimma ! I was accepted to Univ of Wisconsin-Madison for genetics and to Indiana Univ as a direct admit into Kelley School of Business. I was thinking of a business major with pre-med minor at Indiana and at Wisconsin - genetics, then go to med school. Trouble is, Indiana ranks 70 in national universities and Wisconsin 34. If I don't like business at Indiana, am I in trouble with the reputation or lack of, with other departments at Indiana ? UW-M is solid thru and thru.

I can't believe that anyone has ever been adversely impacted by the reputation of any Big Ten university. You're placing way too much importance on USNWR.

UW's business school is very good too and getting better. Much nicer new buildings than Kelley and lots of new money. You can't beat UW for sciences and atmosphere either.

What do finances look like? If Indiana offered a scholarship I would go there, if not I would go to Madison.

USNWR overall ranking is not indicative of a school's reputation, for that look at the peer assessment rating in the USNWR formula where UW is 4.1/5.0 and IU is 3.7/5.0.

As gadad said, all schools are Big Ten schools and typically grouped together, outside of potentially Northwestern and maybe Michigan. Wisconsin isn't going to present any different opportunities after graduation than IU and vise-versa. This is especially true for a business student.

Don't dismiss Indiana's other departments as well, they are very good in essentially anything you want to study.
