i'm deciding between IU and UWisconsin-Madison. I plan to study Business in either schools and I want to ask for some advice academic wise and social-life wise.

btw, i got accepted into IU but the acceptance letter doesn't say anything about the program i applied, does that mean that there's a chance that i won't be accepted into Kelley?

IU is ranked very high for their business majors, so you should keep that in mind.

If it doesn't say anything about getting accepted to kelley in your acceptance package, then that probably means you didn't get in. You would have to reapply after freshman year. As long as you have a 3.0, admission is guaranteed.

I'm turning down Wisconsin for IU Business. Wisconsin's tuition is too much, they gave me bad financial aid, and Indiana's B-School is better.

Direct Admission to the business school comes in a separate letter than the admission packet if you qualify. If you don't qualify for direct admit, then all you need is a 3.0 and you get in the B-school after freshman year.

I'm not going to IU 100%, as I have a visit to MSU Monday, but it's down to IU and MSU for me.

i'm having so much difficulty chosing.
first, i have a friend who told me that overal reputation is more important than individual department when looking for a job (outside of US, where ppl don't really know about US colleges). according to US news UW-Mad is 34 and IUB is 74. should i reall go for IUB?

and in my acceptance letter, i only received a little blue sheet that says "So you're interested in the Kelley School...". i suppose that doesn't mean that i'm admitted? over here we don't use the GPA system so i'm not sure what my GPA is, but i have mostly A and A*, is that more than 3.0?

and one last question, are there many asian or chinese students (i'm chinese)? i'm quite worried about being in a foreign surrounding and i hope that seeing more asians will make me feel more comfortable.

everything about IU sounds great. accept some of the ranking. i've also got award/scholarship for $15,000. i don't know how to chose!

What's wrong with IU's rank? They rank higher essentially every aspect of business than UW does. If anything, it's UW's rank that has something wrong with it. If you get that Kelley degree, that degree will be more valuable than the UW business degree. Employers around the country know how good Indiana's B-School is, they rate it themselves much higher than UW's, and they employ more students than UW's. As for the Asians on campus, I saw quite a few asians in the B-School when we toured it. The campus is mainly white, as is UW, but you will find asians at both places.

A 3.0 is a B average - very doable. In fact if you can't maintain that, your first job is going to be very hard to get no matter which one you go to.
Yes, IU's overall rank is pathetic, BUT, the only reason it is that low is because it is so easy to get in (82% acceptence), which plays a big part in the US News rankings. The rating of the academic integrity, AKA the quality of the school, is considerably higher than similarily ranked institutions. And the B-school is very good. Bottom line: IU

thanks...i guess the ranking thing doesn't sound so bad now.

Jason: it says "$15,000 IU Faculty Award- available to nonresident students on a $3,750 per year basis for up to 4 years".

now i'm really considering IU!

i also have another question regarding dorms.
are all the beds bunkbeds? cuz i saw some pics of the rooms and i would prefer not to have bunkbeds.

Oops, I thought you meant 15,000 per year. I was gonna say I have never heard of an award that high, and in which case I was going to ask why you were even throwing around the option of UW. I have visited both schools, UW-Madison is a real downtown feeling and very very large, where as Indiana, although population wise is also big, gives more of a traditional campus feeling. Personally, I liked IU much better, and never even considered UW after being on campus. It just wasn't for me.

You can bunk the beds if you wish. If you and your roommate don't want to bunk, then you don't have to. You can also do a loft style room. Or you can put them perpendicular to each other, one on top, the other on the bottom.

thanks guys, i've decided to go to IU. yay!
anyway, i'm still wondering about the direct admission to Kelley thing, cuz it doesn't say it on my admission letter, but in the blue envelope for deposit it says "Computer Information Systems BSB" on it so does that mean i'm already in or what?

also, i'm starting to consider housing. so we don't get to chose the particular dorm we want to be in, but just the neighborhood?

I'm a direct admit but they never sent me anything except for an e-mail about 2 weeks after I received my admissions letter so maybe there's still hope.

Yeah, I didn't find out until a couple weeks later also. As to housing, yes that is correct. It sucks, because although they say all dorms are basically the same, they are not. Some are much better than others. And they wonder why most people move off-campus sophomore year.

well i received my admission letter almost 2 months ago and got no email about direct admission.

so basically the housing is kind of random!
i'm quite interested in the Computers and Computing community but it's single room (i'm more interested in double) and i'm worried there will be more guys than girls (i'm a girl).
other than that i'm interested in the Central & Southeast neighbourhoods.

retrobaby are you a chineze citizen? you're english is really goood for an international and i know chinese people in China probaly all study English( well those who can afford it) but reading you're posts, its like you're an American or you were born and raised here!!!! aniwayz propzs cuz you're english is superb.

Hah, that's what college is for, Retro. Enjoy the ratio, it'll probably mean lots of people buying you dinner and stuff.

The single thing sounds kind of funky, but if you're interested in it I'd say to sign up. This late in admissions you may have trouble getting assigned to Central, since I think it's the most popular area.
