I’ve been accepted to both, I have 110 credits going towards a Psychology major already from UW Milwaukee. However, if I want to be a Neuroscientist, should I transfer to Madison? I hear they have a neurobiology program which is doing pretty interesting things.
The biggest limiting factor is money. I’m kind of on my own, my parents aren’t helping me out at all. Considering the extra $4000 a year tuition (which I have done the math, I have the funds for, but it would be difficult. And if anything were to go wrong, like I get a ticket, or my car breaks down, or I have medical expenses, I don’t know what I’d do. Just practically speaking, I still don’t know what I’d do if I had these issues in Milwaukee, but $4k would help).
The other issue is, which school would increase my chances of graduate school? UW Milwaukee has a pretty good psych research team, which would certainly help. But I want to maximize my chances.
If anyone has an understanding of UW Milwaukee, and UW Madison, or has a firm grasp of money could tell me if this is realistic in any way. That’d be very helpful. I’d also like to know if it’s worth it. A lot of posts talk about how amazing Madison is, and honestly I’ve found UW Milwaukee to be great, but I’ve been worried recently with the budget cuts. Theyve cut a few psych classes I would have loved to take which would have been beneficial.
It’s all very complicated, and I don’t doubt that I would receive a good education from Milwaukee. But if I want to grow the most as a person, and have the best career prospects with a degree of neurobiology vs psychology, should I transfer? Please help.
