UW Madison vs NYU GSP

which one would you choose?
I got into Marketing for UW Madison and I originally applied to Economics for NYU (GSP)... help ? =S

Madison all the way, personally. Very good school, very good program, not that NYU isn't... but for ME, if I had the choice between GSP and Madison, I'd head to Wisconsin

My daughter chose NYU GSP over Madison. We live in WI and she feels Madison would be too much like high school, since she knows so many kids there. Plus she loves NYC and has family there. The schools are similar in size, both have excellent academics.... If you want a Big 10 experience, frat parties, the typical college scene, you'll love Madison. If you love the city, arts, culture, and have a strong sense of adventure, you can't go wrong with NYU. The biggest differences between the 2 schools will be the student body and the social life. NYU students are more driven and ambitious, I think, and in general, higher achievers. As for GSP, I think it's a great program, smaller classes, good profs. I'm glad my daughter got into GSP.

The atmospheres at those two schools are like night and day. I was accepted at madison too, but I really don't want to go there because the drinking and partying is constant, and the pressure to do so is immense. Don't get me wrong though, UW students definitely value their education. The students who are out partying saturday night are the same students who are in the library sunday morning.

reid you should be aware that the partying at nyu is no different. We just don't start at 12 pm for football games, but a good deal of kids party throughout the entire week.

The difference is that at NYU there are options to partying--always a new neighborhood to explore, shows, gallery openings, the movie choices alone. At Madison, there's not much to do if you're not partying, and I know kids who felt ostracized if they weren't into drinking. Hey, the number one party school. And Madison is a great city, but small, and students tell me State St gets old quickly. I'm sure there are tremendous parties at NYU, too, but also a million other things going on.

Are you insane? Madison, hands down.

i thought i was probably the only person who applied to UW Madison and NYU...small world. I'm going NYU cause its my dream school but Madison is pretty sweet too. Definitely my second choice.

How did I get rejected from Madison (60ish% acceptance rate ) but accepted to NYU (28% acceptance rate)? I'm ecstatic, but Madison was my financial safety, and I really thought I had a shot. x_x;

It strikes me that NYU and Wisconsin are looking for very different attitudes and things to be reflected in things like essays, etc.. I know that my Wisconsin essay and my NYU essay were quite different, but they both worked so.. shrug

Ha! I also applied and was accepted to both. I'm leaning toward NYU because I want to be in IR, and the opportunities in NYC outweigh those in Madison. The UW does have a good IR program, lots of languages, ect, but the internship and diversity of NYC outweigh that of Madison.

Granted, if NYU hadn't given me the scholarship they did, I doubt this choice would even be an option. Both are great schools, so you can't really "go wrong" with either one.
