uw milwaukee, iit, uic, madison technical college. illinois resident

So my goal is to eventually transfer to uw madison for their biomedical engineering. I know it'll cost a lot and i will probably wont get in to their program with my scores. I will have a 3.3-3.42 unweighted gpa. I plan on getting a 30+ on the Act and doing scoring high on math sections. I also plan on scoring around 2100 or more for the SAT. With these scores, i think id be pretty safe for madison technical, iit, uw milwaukee, and uic for their programs. This is because im in a gifted program where the courses are harder then honors classes and have required ap classes. I also do tkd, robotics, and olympiad. I am concerned about the costs of uw madison so i think itd be better to transfer from milwaukee or madison tech. I heard they have some nearly guaranteed transfers into uw madison. I also heard that the transfers do not include biomedical engineering. Is this true? If it is, i guess im stuck at iit or uic because they are in state. But for some reason, a teacher told me schools in Illinois like uic or uiuc cost more than out of state schools like madison. Is this also true? these factors will come into play.

In state or out of state is irrelevant for private universities like Illinois Institute of Technology. For state schools it does matter even though their tuition is rising rapidly. Furthermore there is a cost differential between state schools, for example UW Madison and UW Milwaukee.

Since you are an Illinois resident, UIC should be far less expensive than UW Madison (out of state tuition). While IIT has a nominally higher tuition, we often give decent financial aid packages to strong students and make the overall cost closer to that of in-state public institutions.

I suggest that you look at the BME programs you like best, visit the schools and then apply to those you like. Once you get all the acceptances and financial aid packages in hand, you can make the decision based on which program you like best and which ones are affordable for you and your family.
