i still havent decided and the deadline is comming upp.
it's between UW-Madison and UMinn-Twincities.
i'm going into mechanical engineeringg, so which school would have an edge?? in terms of post-grad job opportunites??

also, i want school that is "more fun"....im not the kind who enjoys studying 24/7
i already know that mechanical engineering is a rigorous major, however i need school that will allow me to balance it with some fun...i really enjoy music, concerts, nightclubs, just big events...
which should i go for? i know that UW is technically ranked higher, but does the 8 or so place lead over minnesota really make a huge difference??
Minnesota seems like it has a wider variety of stuff to do because of the twin cities, but i hear that Madison has a better social life. idk. im lost. help me out please.

madison is more expensive by about 10k.
i have visited both campuses. both campuses have a different feel, but neither are negative.

does Uminn’s close proximity to big headquarters necessarily mean that its easier for Uminn grads to get mecahnical engineering jobs?? because that’s what they boasted about when i visited there.

which companies usually recruit from UW madison??

^ yep…twin cities is a big city and undergrads from uminn have much more better oppurtunities to get jobs than wisc grads from countriyish madison after graduating.

" know that UW is technically ranked higher, but does the 8 or so place lead over minnesota really make a huge difference??"

well, i personally dont think it matters at all…overall they are pretty similar schools.
Also, if you dont want party go with minnesota… again. Wisconsin madison is famous for being a party school. if you look up princeton review’s top 10 party school in the nation wisconsin typically is in there. Twin cities also gives tons of opportunities to have fun and experience much. Go with minnesota!!!

I will have the same dilemma next year, except I’m planning on going into economics. I’m visiting Madison next week and I visited UMN last friday. Both are great schools!

Minnesota:
*Cheaper
*Just as good as Madison, seriously Madison is overrated (coming from someone accepted and lived in Wisconsin his entire life)
*Job oppurtunities right there as opposed to having to go to Milwaukee or Chicago
*I saw your other post about a Music Franchise, Arts/Music scene in the Twin Cities >>Madison
*Carlson (Grad)>UW Business School (Grad)
*Don’t let it fool you, Minnesota DOES have a social life, parties, events at the Union every week, plus everything to do in the Cities.

I know this is probably entirely biased, but I went through the same choice as you and eventually turned down Madison. If you want a city with ample options choose the U, if you want more of a “college city” (not exactly a town) where you probably won’t end up staying go to Madison.

Don’t let the Uminn ■■■■■■ lie to you. Wisconsin has a far better national reputation and better undergrad focus. Uminn undergrad is a factory.
Chicago jobs>>>Minn St Paul jobs
Carlson and UWis Business are equals undergrad and grad. Average MBA pay in 2008 was $87,539 for UM and $88,626 for UW and UW placed much better outside the midwest (35% vs 7%).

UW’s student social life is beyond compare.

omgggg im so confused now!!
im like jumping back and forth between each school every hour.
hmmm…i really dont know still.
im still not sold on either school.
any more input anyone?
