UW Seattle, UMN, Rutgers, Ohio State(+$5k/yr) where should i go???

Hey, can you guys give me some suggestions as to where I should enroll at?
My major is not decided yet

University of Washington Seattle:
I heard it's overrated? great city, but potential quake?

University of Minnesota Twin Cities:
well-balanced? freezing

Rutgers University:
good location but top 3 on "unhappiest students" rank

Ohio State University Columbus:
offered me $5k/yr scholarship. someone said "it's only good at business. other areas are mediocre"

Thanks in advance! People who put lots of emphasis on ranking said "UW no doubt!" but I want to know whether they overlooked merits of my other options...

I know you said you haven’t decided on a major yet, but do you know generally what field? For example, you prefer maths or sciences, or maybe you enjoy history more.

I don’t know too much about the other schools, but perhaps you should focus on which departments you are potentially interested in are strong at certain universities.

Also, are you basing your college choice off weather… or something similar?

And UW is not overrated. Then again, (cliche alert!) college is what you make of it. UW is huge, has tons of resources, and strong programs. If you don’t utilize them, you might feel like it’s overrated and people are just ‘inflating’ the ranking.

Are you Washington resident? I got into the University of Michigan with $25,000/yr, but it’s still expensive compared to instate at UW, so UW is still my first choice.

If money isn’t a huge issue and you aren’t a WA resident, I’d choose UW out of all of those.

No im an int’l student
Thanks for replying. Can u tell me the reason you chose UW?

you from UW? i really want to try all the courses and then decide so im really confused right now. but i certainly wont become a docter thats for sure

Minnesota is one of the top chemical engineering schools in the nation, if you consider doing che eng in the near future.

but if i havent decided my major yet then where should i choose?

lol the earthquake thing really sounds naive but because im an intl student im more concerned with safety problems
i have posted this thread 4 times, on each of the subforums of the schools that admitted me. nearly everyone said their own school is the best!

There are hardly ever earthquakes in Seattle…not to worry :)

r u sure? there’s been this rumor since '09 that the plate in seattle is gonna break and there will be a tsunami and stuff like that

I’ve lived in Seattle my whole life (18 yrs) and we had one “big” earthquake maybe ten years ago. I think it was only like a 4 magnitude though. I haven’t heard anything about a tsunami, lol. If it does happen it’ll be in 2012 ;)

oh well thanks! no worries then =D
