UW-Steven's Point

Can anyone tell me about this program? I can't find much about it on these boards.

I don't think we have any current members who already attend (or have children attending) UW-Steven's Point. However, one member is going to be a freshman there next fall and presumably has visited and explored the school and so you may wish to contact her: music_darling08

Otherwise, contact the department directly and ask for information, read their site, and ask questions via email or phone with faculty in that program.

I don't know a great deal about the program except that for a small college it is having pretty amazing Broadway results. Curt Hansen a 2007 graduate is appearing in Hairspray right now. Laura Osness - who is Sandy in Grease now - would I believe have graduated with Curt, had she stayed at UW Steven's Point. It was too close to home for my son - but we have heard nothing but good things. It is close to the Twin Cities and we have wonderful theatre opportunities.

Soozievt is correct. I'm going to be a freshman in MT there next fall, and I'm so excited! The only feedback I can give right now is what I have gathered from the audition process and campus visits thus far, but if you have any questions I woul be more than happy to help you out the best I can! We could even keep in touch if you like, and I'll hopefully provide an insider's view of the program after a while. Drop me a line.

I also forgot to mention that dreamcoat's son is heading to UW-Stevens Point as well. So, there's two CC members you may wish to contact.

Thank you, everyone, for the speedy replies! From what I'm hearing, UW-Steven's Point is an excellent program. :)

I don't know if anyone else has looked but this school has the least expensive tuition, room and board that I've ever seen! And they are producing Broadway caliber talent, WOW what a Gem!

I went to school there some time ago. The program has had many, many successful students over the years. The network we have is extensive and fairly tight. Over the past 20+ years we have had students in many B'way shows, national and international tours and working in the regions. The designers and technicians are all over the country. It has an outstanding tradition.

Point is a gem. The Noel Fine Arts Center is beautiful. Named after John Noel who owns a large insurance company in Stevens Point. They have a theater, a black box and a performance hall. Theater and dance are in the same building as music-but very separated. New this year-senior showcase!! As far as I know Curt Hanson took a leave from school-he hasn't graduated yet. I believe he was sophmore-

Some students really enjoy Stevens Point-some don't-just like any other college. It is small, inexpensive, and not close to much. You will get a good education there and it is all undergrad students. The students we talked to love the faculty. My son will be there this fall in the BFA Acting program. I would love to answer any other questions -if I can't answer them I can put you in touch with students in the program.

My daughter will be a sophomore next year at UWSP. I spent an enormous amount of time researching BFA programs. She auditioned and was accepted into multiple BFA programs and, in the end, chose UWSP. I would be more than happy to answer any questions you have. She is far from home, but in a great place.

I disagree with the notion that it is "not close to much". It is about 2-4 hours from Minneapolis, Madison, Milwaukee, and Chicago - all places where the arts thrive and opportunities for performing artists abound.

Some more UWSP graduates have been spotted!

Andrew Cao is going to be playing Tony in the revival of ANYTHING GOES with Sutton Foster

Curt Hansen will be or already is the understudy for Gabe in N2N. He will also play the role
on the National Tour.

Gerald Avery is in Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark

And of course Laura Osnes is doing very well, she was in the Sondheim 80th birthday concert, She is currently playing Bonnie in Bonnie and Clyde at Asolo Repertory Theatre and is heading to broadway in August!

Im not a current student, just a prospective doing his research.

Yay, UW-Stevens Point  Yes, our graduates are doing quite well.

Wishadream - I am a current musical theatre junior at UW-Stevens Point. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me!
