I didn’t know where to go for help, but I was hoping I can get my doubts clearler.
I want to major in visual communication design or (graphic design) but sadly my current university doesn’t offer my major (FSU-Panama) So I was planning to transfer to an university or art school. UW has caught my attention because of their program, but I don’t know if it’s good. If I go to Pratt they will lower me into a freshman again I just started college.) I don’t know much about VCUarts that much but I heard it has a good design program. The reason why I applied to FSU was because I was planning to major in marketing but I don’t want my life to revolve only about business. The classes that I’m taking are boring (I have to study the gen ed requirements for my major if I want to go to Tallahassee) I don’t want to major in business or engineering. I don’t want that…
So far UW or Pratt are my best interest, help?!
Did you just finish freshman year? What are your cost considerations as far as financial aid? If you are looking into Pratt you may want to look at the Utica campus, Pratt MWP, and then a transfer to Brooklyn. VCU Arts has a good reputation. If you haven’t done so then go to the respective forums for each school to see what is being said.
D attends vcuarts graphic design major. It is in fact one of the top design schools in the country public or private.
Its grad program is ranked #2 in all of America with only Yale ahead of it. It is highly competitive. You need to contact them and ask if you would need to take the foundation year or if you could be accepted directly into a major. ALL freshman are accepted without a major , and spend the year doing a foundation of building a portfolio and touching on all facets of design. They then apply to a major and based on their grades and portfolio. Majors like graphic design are highly competitive to get into .
If you’re going for any kind of art degree (like a BFA) you’d probably be starting in the equivalent of freshman year too at Syracuse and any others, like at Pratt. You might not be coded as such, but pretty much all art departments have a foundation year and you’ll need to take those classes as prerequisites for further coursework. I work in an art department too and while the transfer students aren’t necessarily labeled as ‘freshman’ they have to start with those classes. BUT the coursework you’ve taken so far isn’t a waste, often those can be used for your humanities, sciences etc.
So make sure you to ask detailed questions about this to any school you’re applying to, and see if they can help map out what classes would transfer and how many years it will take at their school to get your degree.
