I'm currently a student at Seattle Central Community College and planning to transfer to UW.

My stats:

High school GPA - ~2.9 - 3.0 (I hate high school XD)
Overall college GPA - 3.75 (~60 - 70 quarter credits by application deadline, will have 90+ by enrollment but I'm not getting an AA degree)
Will finish all prereq courses by enrollment if accepted.
Current Prereq GPA ~3.6
Activities - I am volunteering at VA hospital. Involving with Saturday church activities. Teaching Vietnamese at the World school.

Personal Statement - Please give me tips and advices, I suck at this part...(Is there any online peer edit or proof reading?)

Will I get accepted into the general admission?
If I am accepted into the general admission but not the college of art and science (Computer Science). Can I still enroll at UW to finish my prereq courses for all schools?

Please give me your opinions and advices. THank you XDDD

First of all congrats for getting your act together. I had a 2 something gpa in high school…later went to seattle central with my AA and a 3.92 gpa and was able to successfully transfer to UW. So I’ve been on your path, and I think it’s great what you’ve done thus far.

It’s hard to tell from this post if you have or not. If you take care of all of the requirements, then your grades in high school are no longer important. Hell, even if you look at just what specific classes you took in high school that were not up to par…and then taking the college equivalent at seattle central, your odds go way up.

Without knowing this type of information it’s hard for me to say whether you’ll get into UW or not much less a specific program.

Thanks for the reply and congratz on your acceptance into UW XD. Well, both posts are from me as you noticed. Haha.
So if I have more than 45 credits, my HS grades won’t be important as much? (I have 58 now)
For the CADR into 4 years-university, I’ve finished everything. All my classes (Math, social science, art, english…ect) are 3.5+ in GPA except for Spanish(3.3 and 3.0)
I’m applying to computer science, but my hope is just to get into UW so I can explore other opportunities as well. Over a year of working on computer science prereqs…I’m starting to have doubts that CS is right for me.

That’s fine. If you have >45 college credits, all you need is >=2.0 in every CADR HS course, that’s all.

To increase your chances, you should list a second major (informatics, for example) on your application. I heard that rejection from a department almost equals rejection from the university (unless you list the second major into which you are accepted).

I’m going to list my second major as history since I already have all the prereqs for the major finished with a 4.0 GPA average. Glad to here that advice…never thought about that XD

Seatac…do you think I should list “History” as my 1st major? Since the prereqs GPA average is higher than CS’s. and I’m having a feeling that computer science is not right for me. To be honest, I just want to get into UW to explore the opportunities.

I don’t know what you should list as your first major History has minimum admission requirements and not competitive at all if your GPA is >3.0 (I assume).

with all of the new information you provided, I think you’ll have no problem getting in. Make sure in your essay to point out how/why you are such a diff person then when you were in hs and how your grades reflect that (at least that’s what i wrote…and i got in)

Oh yeah. About the personal statement. I believe they are asking about your career aspirations also. So, unless you have already thought about the application of your History degree, it might be a challenging part ;)

You don’t have to really mention much about career in your personal statement. personal statement (transfer students). I didn’t. It was like one sentence in mine. (honestly, I had a high paying career before I went back to school…if anything I’m going to get a lower paying job after my degree). I’m just going to school for the sake of learning new things

Write about something unique to you - what are you passionate about? What has changed you? Who is a huge figure in your life?

Edit, edit, edit. Some people may be stellar writers and can deliver a beautiful piece, but others (like me!) need to start early, look at the paper every few days with a clear mind, and keep working on it.

Ok, so I’m sweating my balls off here but I was reading through your posts and came across yours and I just HAD to know.
How’d you do it???
I’m so worried- I’ll be applying as a transfer from a community college in Texas, all the way to UofWashington and my high school grades SUCK. Seriously- I have the same 2 something GPA problem.
I just wanted to know how you caught UW’s eye. I’m in love with the school, forreals, and I can’t let my high school grades screw me over.
Thanks so much in advance.
