Hi everyone,
I am going to be applying to UWC this year as well. I am applying from a small town in California where we only have a bit of schools. I greatly hope they take my application, review it, and invite me back for interviews…Good luck to everyone that has applied as well. I hope i will be the first to actually go to a school like this and hopefully get a diploma unlike the rest of my family…
-Winter

Ok I just found out about UWC a few weeks ago, and I am OBSESSED with it. Im hoping to apply for 2012. I’m an American student, with A’s and one B :(. I do a bunch of extracurriculars, and I created an Invisible Children group at my school and fundraise for the organization and am a leader for my schools Model UN. I play the trumpet and the guitar. I sent in my pSAT’s and my SAT’s, and they were decent (209 pSATs and 2100 SATs).
I was wondering?
- Should I even attempt to apply? I feel so shadowed by everyone else’s achievements…
- Will they take into account where you want to go? (top 5 Italy, India, Costa Rica, America, Canada)
- I am essentially fluent in Spanish, but in ever get a chance to practice anymore, so I’m rusty, should I still put it down?
- I’m trying to convince one parent( the other is completely supportive) to let me go, maybe some tips to convince him?

- Yes, absolutely. You are definitely not shadowed, considerin that your GPA is much better than many accepted students’ (including mine). Your activities also sound good.
- No. Decisions about where they send you are made after they choose the accepted students, so your preferences play no role in your admission.
- Yes, I recommend putting it down, though if you get an interview I’d brush up a little since there’s a decent chance your interviewer will try to engage you.
- It’s the most amazing experience of your life: you’ll meet friends you love (and still talk to decades later), receive a stellar education (which is well-recognized by people internationally), attain access to a worldwide alumni network, and likely meet your mate (something like 80% of UWC graduates marry other UWCers). Plus, it’s free. In fact, my parents have actually saved money (on food, utilites, etc.) by sending me. If they still need convincing once/if you get an interview, there are plenty of parents willing to talk to them (including mine).

Thanks kameron, just a quick poll who else on this thread is applying in jan??

Hey everyone!
I’m glad I found this forum I’m from Germany and currrently applying for UWC 2014 too! What’s the application process in The US/UK like? I was just wondering because the German deadline was 15th December and all of you are talking about applying in january…
my favorites are Costa Rica, Norway, USA, HongKong and Wales. How come that most of you like Italy that much?! Have a happy Christmas everyone!

whoooaaa!!! i’m so happy that i found this forum. i’d like to go to RCNUWC. my dream is Norway. i’m so excited, and i hate that i have to wait until the end of semester. i’m taking pictures of RCNUWC on my wall. and everywhere i can see it. :D:D:D i believe in Secret so i do everything to have my wish come true. :)

ooohh, I’m from Hungary. :D

@Notsoblindfaith1

That’s so weird… you have the exact same grades as me and play the same instruments… and have almost the exact same ECs! …spooky!
Anyway yes, definitely apply! I’m applying despite thinking I have no chance of getting in, just go for it!

Everyone who’s even vaguely thinking of it should apply. There’s not even an application fee for Americans, so there’s really nothing to use.

For personal context, I filled out the application on a lark, assuming I’d be rejected. Even after I got an interview, I thought everyone else at my interview site was waay better than me and that m interview went horribly. In fact, all the way home I was crying because I was so sure I was rejected. Now, I’m loving my second-year there and the person from my interview who I thought outshined me is one of my best friends.

My last recommendation form should be mailed by tomorrow, but now I’m really nervous. I’ve read the stats of some of the people who’ve applied in the past and I feel not up to par.
I got a 189 on the pSAT, and I have all A’s and one B. I’m the captain of the school’s swim team, and a member of French club, art club, yearbook, book club, and the FNHS. My biggest fear is my personal statement though. I got really passionate about my subject: the production of weapons over providing for the world’s impoverished, but I don’t think I said enough about myself, now that I look back on it. Did anyone else struggle when writing theirs?

Hello there =) some of you could be my first years, well actually only those who apply for UWC in Mostar… I know it doesn’t leave WOW impression when you hear about it, but hey after all, we are the only college that doesn’t have isolated campus but is placed in Mostar maybe you should check it out: [United World College in Mostar](http://www.uwcmostar.ba)

And no, there is no war going on in Bosnia =)

Hey everyone! Hope all of you had a great break! :)

kameronsmith, I had a quick question that I’m getting really nervous about. :)

Apparently, my councillor forgot to send in my SAT scores for Part B (she sent it in November, but it was just put online today that it was missing), and I’m stressing out how I’m supposed to send in my scores before the deadline (Tomorrow (I’m pretty sure that’s not possible!)).

After I get my test scores from my school when school starts (also tomorrow), can I fax or email them over so they get there faster? Or should I just send them per mail? Thank you! :)

Oh, and has anyone else not gotten any many checks on their submitted parts section online? I only got one (and it said it wasn’t complete)…

Happy New Year everyone! :)

Yeah I’m having htat problem too… I have reccomendations and things like test scores that were sent in awhile ago but there are still no checks in the boxes. Should I be nervous??? Please say no… Deadline is tomorrow for USA.

hi guys,

First of all, good luck everyone! I am applying from The Netherlands. I have a question: Does one of you know when the deadline is?
Xx

I do have another question. I want to stay in Europe and so I chose Wales, Mostar, Italy and Norway. Does anyone know which one is the best out of these? Anyone who can tell me something about one of these colleges from his/her own experiences?

26 January 2012

@ nefark: I personally haven’t experienced any of these colleges but read tons of blogs and informed a lot. I think Norway is the best as Norway is very rich and supports the college in any way they can. they have white-boards (these electronic things) in every classroom and a lot of highly qualified teachers. Only disadvantage: it’s cold out there :D

Wales is very good too I’d say. As it is the oldest college they have a lot of trafition and Harray Potter-like castles, etc. And they teach Surfing I haven’t heard a lot about Italy and Mostar (though I think they are acceptable too). Every college has its standards in teaching and facilities. You’ll get good education everywhere. And I think UWC is about the IDEA and not about the PLACE. So don’t mind which college you actually get into. Just apply and let the NC surprise you :D

And I love the link 082349 sent. Dutch is sounds so cute :)

thank you Actually, I don’t think I will make any chance, because I haven’t been active in any social project before and done something myself, but I think trying is worth it.
Xxx

It says my test scores are missing as well, so I’m going to express mail them. It also says it needs Part C. So I’m going to talk to my counselor again, and get that mailed ASAP. I’ll think they’ll give you time.
Especially because it’s not like it’s our fault it’s missing.

I wonder how many boys versus girls apply to UWC and whether the committees attempt to balance places by gender. It seems like more girls post than boys.
